The New York Knicks have been actively looking for ways to move Derrick Rose out of their roster and into an ideal situation. The former MVP has spent the last two and a half seasons with the Knicks, playing a total of 87 games with them, but it appears that his tenure with the team could be coming to an end. With the Knicks hoping to build for the future, they are looking to send Derrick Rose to a situation that will be beneficial for both him and the team.

According to Marc Stein, the Knicks are looking to “do right by” Rose and send him to an ideal situation. An ideal situation for Rose at this stage would be a place where he gets to actually play. It is also worth noting that the Knicks have transitioned from grizzled vets, too. Rose’s role on the Knicks this year has been more in the capacity of a mentor.

Despite being in an unprecedented situation, Rose has handled it with remarkable class and sportsmanship. He has consistently shown his support for his teammates from the sidelines, which is a testament to his character and professionalism.

“I like being around a locker room where the vibrations are just winning,” Rose said. “And they got Deuce playing ahead of me. I can’t hate on that young man. I had him over for Thanksgiving last year. Real cool with his family members. I love the way he’s playing. I would feel a way if I was hating in any type of fashion. So I’m happy for him.”

Rose is playing very limited minutes at around just 13 per game and is averaging only 5.8 points per game and shooting 39.4% from the field. The Knicks have managed to put together an impressive 14-6 record since the sudden shakeup to the rotation since they inserted McBride into it and took Rose out. That includes a massive 8-game win streak during which the Knicks looked like the best team in the NBA.

The fans and front office alike, recognize the importance and the advantages of having a team that is this good and this young. With Brunson, Randle and Barrett at the helm surrounded by snappy youngsters like Grimes, Quickley, Toppin, and Robinson, the Knicks have climbed to the top 6 playoff spots in the East.

All that being said, it is highly likely that Rose gets dealt at the deadline, but where to is still unknown. The fans will have to wait and see if the Knicks can find a trade partner willing to provide Rose with a chance to get some playing time. It’s also unfortunate to see the youngest MVP ever be surrounded by such talks. Rose will without a doubt be the biggest what if? question of the league.
