The NBA happens to be the best basketball league in the world. No other league has achieved the level of talent they have. Recently, in the NCAA March Madness, the UConn Huskies Men’s basketball team have been extremely good, good enough that an ESPN analyst claims they can compete in the NBA’s Eastern Conference playoffs. Such a claim points to a possible lack of talent in the NBA.

The University of Connecticut Men’s Basketball team are the defending NCAA Champions. In this year’s NCAA March Madness, they are heavily favored to repeat as back-to-back champions.

While discussing the UConn Huskies impressive play in the tournament so far, ESPN’s Mike Greenberg suggested that:

They would make the playoffs NBA's Eastern Conference, that's how good they are.

Prior to this statement, Jay Williams explained how the Huskies men play the game of basketball. Greenberg’s suggestion was a closing statement to Williams’ analysis.

As per their analysis, the UConn Huskies men play with a vigor and attention to detail that makes them that good. The Huskies men used the same style of play to win the Championship last season, but as both Williams and Greenberg discussed, they are using their experience to play better this year.

It does help that most of their players have been playing together for some time. And that time together has made the team better than last year. Good enough to compete with the best in the NBA’s East, as per Greenberg. Does this mean that the Eastern Conference teams in the NBA are not good enough?

The talent level of the NBA’s Eastern Conference

The NBA‘s Western Conference is loaded with top-level talent. That elite game combined with good coaching has made it the conference to watch for. With playoff standings changing every week, it has become an elite show of competitiveness towards the end of the regular season. However, the Eastern Conference is a different story.

The Boston Celtics have been the clear leaders for quite some time. This has led to some drab play from the rest of the teams. Most of the teams seem content with their positions and are playing as if nothing is on the line. They play well in spurts, leading to low-scoring games and a lack of overall fight. It is also quite clear that the teams in the East are inferior to those in the West.

These could be reasons why Mike Greenberg suggested that the UConn Huskies Men’s Basketball team is good enough to be a playoff contender in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. This evidently is a shot at how lackluster the East has become.
