“I think this is a joke” Richard Jefferson slams Adam Silver, NBA for pitching the idea of shortening the season
Adam Silver and Richard Jefferson
Richard Jefferson is back in the NBA headlines as he strongly opposed NBA commissioner Adam Silver’s idea of shortening the season. It’s just an Idea as of now but the viral take of the former player turned analyst can shut it down real quick as he believes that’s just nonsense. Adam Silver before the NBA Finals in his press conference told the media that he isn’t against changing the schedule of the regular season but that would happen only if there is a direct impact on the injuries. Last season only 72 games were played by every team which is ten less than the normal schedule of 82 games for each team but no such changes were seen in the injury list. As players kept getting injured and missed the games.
Richard Jefferson believes there’s no need to shorten the season. As the players already have load management and the modern days have them a lot of time to rest. So it’s not the schedule that gets them injured it’s just their choice of not being the fittest and maintaining themselves. He sitting alongside Kendrick Perkins during an ESPN segment quoted: “I think it’s absurd… This is my issue right here it’s that you have game readies, you have norma tags. It was years ago players used to not travel commercials. We have eliminated back-to-backs. We now have a week-long All-Star break. Instead of like three and a half days and I remember guys use to catch flights play the last game on Thursday then on Sunday and then have games on Tuesday and Wednesday. They have every single thing…still you want to shorten the season like how much more do we have to make this cuddling stuff go with the players.”
Further, Richard Jefferson backed his take up with some facts as he said: “That just makes no sense. Professional sports is not good on your body. It’s suppose to separate the people that can’t do it from the people that can do it. And while we do want our best product on the floor, part of greatness is longevity. That’s what Michael Jordan, that’s what Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, that’s what LeBron James all of these guys we talk about their greatness over a long period of time. And to keep eliminating this and dialing it back to the point where it’s like there is nothing else for the players to do. I think it is a joke. I think they should never do this.”

Richard Jefferson on Adam Silver’s idea of shortening the season
Richard Jefferson probably has thousands of points to counter the idea of Adam Silver. As he sides with the old heads and opposes the shortening of the season. As many believe it’s perfectly fine and cutting down the number of games won’t make a change. As the players are still going to take their time off. Kendrick Perkins also added to it as he brought in the money conversations which indirectly brought the owners in as Richard Jefferson gave examples of injuries and conditioning of a player.
Richard Jefferson also boldly claimed that shortening the season will end up messing up the numbers, records and so much about basketball. He is actually not at all wrong with the words he said as it makes complete sense and even last season didn’t make a difference so shortening the season wouldn’t be a great idea as of now.
