Despite James’ impressive performance with 28 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists during game one, it wasn’t sufficient to propel the Cavaliers to victory in the game one of the series. On the Warriors’ side, Kevin Durant took the lead with 38 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Officials defend controversial call that changed James’ 3 point to 2 point

In a game filled with a dramatic ending on Saturday, the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a narrow defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves, concluding with a score of 108-106. The intense moment unfolded in the fourth and final quarter, with the Timberwolves holding a 107-104 lead and only 2.3 seconds left on the clock.

In a crucial play, LeBron James believed he had leveled the game for the Lakers with a clutch shot outside the arc. However, the officials deemed it a two-point shot, adding an unexpected twist to the game’s conclusion.

The officials, requiring clear and conclusive evidence to overturn the decision, invested extensive time at the monitor and communicated with the league office in Secaucus, New Jersey. After careful review, they ultimately concluded that it was a 2-point shot, much to the disappointment of James and the Lakers.

Clearly, the lack of "clear and concrete" evidence is what kept the call a two-point shot, as if it was originally ruled a 3-pointer, there probably would've been insufficient evidence the other way, keeping it a three-ball.

Following this defeat, the Lakers find themselves in 9th place on the Western Conference standings with a record of 17-16. Eager to move past this episode, they set their sights on a hopeful turnaround when they confront the New Orleans Pelicans on New Year’s Day.
