“He has quietly put together the biggest off-season of his career” Rob Pelinka delivers Anthony Davis warning to the rest of NBA
Anthony Davis has been hitting the gym, says Rob Pelinka
The LA Lakers were primed to be a force to reckon with this season, after Anthony Davis got injured, nothing went their way, as they ended up being one of the biggest disappointments in the recent NBA history, and the future looks bleak for the power forward. Lakers get to grips with their disastrous season and have been looking for change in personnel, with rumors of Kyrie Irving reuniting with Lebron becoming persistent. Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka believes the team will head into next season with a chip on their shoulder, and that Anthony Davis will lead the way back to prominence on the heels of his best offseason yet.
The Los Angeles Lakers star-studded team not making into the playoffs was and has been one of the biggest talking points in and around the world of NBA. With One of the All-Time Greats, LeBron James himself, and two future Hall of Famers in Anthony Davis and freshly traded, Russell Westbrook, the Lakers looked scary on paper, not so much on court.
“He’s got a very serious tone about him” – Rob Pelinka reveals how hard Anthony Davis has been training for the next season
The 2021-22 NBA season did not go as planned for the Basketball giants In Los Angeles. They started the season poorly and didn’t seem to take games seriously until after the All-Star break. There seemed to be a lack of urgency among the players in general, with all the injuries, they never developed any rhythm. The Lakers gave up so much to acquire Anthony Davis back in 2019. In exchange for his services, they sent Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first-round picks to New Orleans.
Once Davis went down with an MCL Sprain the Lakers had only the aging Dwight Howard for size, the next biggest player was the 6′8″ Lebron James and a similar-sized Carmelo Anthony. The team looked dependent on the play of Anthony Davis, a player with a history of injuries. Instead of putting personnel in place to take some of the pressure from AD, they got rid of basically all their big & key men such as Kuzma, KCP, and Caruso which put AD in a position where he was MORE likely to be injured.
In a video that posted over the weekend, the Lakers big man admitted that he hasn’t shot a basketball since April 5th. Lakers fans and the basketball world reacted strongly to this, however, the 29-year-old has been seen hitting the gym at absurd hours to put in the work. If you ask Los Angeles Lakers manager Rob Pelinka, it is clear that he believes there is no cause for concern here whatsoever. Pelinka had nothing but praise for Davis as he described how seriously the eight-time All-Star has been this summer in terms of his preparation for the new season.
“He’s bought in, and I think he’s quietly put together one of the biggest off-season’s of his career. You can just tell. He’s got a very serious tone about him. Last year didn’t unfold the way that any of us wanted, and I think everyone’s gonna come back with a chip on our shoulder, and A.D.’s gonna lead us with that. I think he’s working hard. I know he’s working really hard on his body.” Rob Pelinka said, which means Davis is coming, and the league should be wary of his arrival.
After winning the 2020 championship, Davis endured several injuries which sidelined him for long stretches. Davis has played in only 76 games in the last two seasons out of a potential 154. A dysfunctional team, poor decision making, lack of rhythm, and good players to fill in roles, all these factors led to the Lakers having a record of 33-49 in 2021-22 and crashing out of the playoff. They would rather forget this season and start afresh, as for Anthony Davis, its only a matter of time before he shuts his critics down, hopefully !
