WATCH: Rob Pelinka motivates LeBron James, Lakers with highly awkward speech
Rob Pelinka
Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka has faced criticism for demolishing their title-winning roster. This has created a lot of problems for the entire Lakers campaign. The team has played miserably over the last two seasons. Rob gave a ‘painful’ speech during a team meeting which recently went viral.
Rob Pelinka quoted, “I think there’s a lot of folks in this room, me included, we have a chip on our shoulder. A lot of people on the outside talking noise, we don’t pay attention to that. But I think to get to the end, and to accomplish what we want to accomplish, having that edge, having that chip on your shoulder, playing with that level of competitiveness, fire is important to our swag.”
Rob added, “To me, this really aligns with Darvin Ham’s leadership, that’s what he’s about. When we spell words around here, we don’t like the letter ‘i’ to be in the word. This is a ‘us’ a ‘we’ team.. If we take ourselves out, me included, coach included, everybody in this room, and we make this a ‘we’ and an ‘us’ room, then the ‘i’ turns into that thing right there and that’s what everyone is chasing.”
Rob Pelinka should make better moves that benefit the team
Pelinka has always been questioned about his job and the decisions he has taken for LA. The GM failed to acquire shooters who would have supported the superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Moreover, the addition of Russell Westbrook resulted in the franchise lagging behind from all expectations.
Rob quietly signed a 5-year extension this offseason and ensured stability in the organization. The Lakers are down 0-5 and desperately need to fight back to reach their intended goals. But giving a speech did seem to have motivated the players in some way. Rob should try to reinitiate trade talks that are currently on hold.
Adding a shooter who can collect more 3-pointers for the group is a must. There is no support left for LeBron with the current roster and he feels the pressure to deliver extends past his capabilities. Even Anthony Davis hasn’t managed to keep away from injuries. The decision to bench Russell in one of the games also did not yield any positive results.
