The Houston Rockets are on a decent path this season. Last season they won 22 games and finished second last in the Western Conference. This season they have won the same number of games till now.

The caveat is that there are 35 games still to play this season. Now, they have made a trade. The trade has got basketball fans to talk on social media. Not because of the timing. But because of how it transpires for the Rockets.

The Rockets have made a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for center Steven Adams. In exchange, the Rockets will send Victor Oladipo and three second-round picks to the Grizzlies. The immediate downside of this trade is that Adams is currently out injured. He will not be ready to play before next season. Although the Rockets’ aim for Adams is to contribute next season, Adams will turn 31 starting next season and coming off a major injury.

Steven Adams has played in the NBA for 10 seasons. The former first-round draft pick is known for his prodigious rebounding, defense, and interior presence. Although he was a starter in his previous stops, the Rockets already have Alperen Sengun playing elite-level basketball from the 5. Adams will be a crucial backup for Sengun, something the Rockets lack currently.

It seems the Rockets are trying to build on what they currently have. Their young core is improving game by game. Head coach Ime Udoka has established his vision for the team.

Toughness is a part of their DNA. But often, young players take time to establish that toughness early in their careers. Which is why they signed Dillon Brooks this offseason to set the tone.
