Brittney Griner has been on Russian soil for nearly 120 days and her way back is getting delayed on various grounds. Boxing star Roy Jones Jr. said that he would travel to Moscow to bring her back

American WNBA star athlete Brittney Griner has been jailed on drug charges in Russia. After authorities found hash oil in her language in February, she was held captive on the same day. As per the local rules, she would be facing up to 10 years in prison, as per CNN reports. The United States has classified Griner as being “wrongfully detained.” Griner has played basketball in Russia since 2014 for UMMC Ekaterinburg. And Now this new issue might have put her in a bad light and will keep her in Russia for the wrong reasons.

As per TMZ Sports reports, Roy Jones Jr is working behind the scenes to free Brittney Griner. He said that he is willing to travel to Moscow to escort Brittney home. Boxer Roy Jones Jr would be a special case as he holds dual citizenship of both States and Russia.

Even after much pressure from the government and celebrities around the Globe, Brittney Griner’s release is getting delayed. WNBA Star has been in Russian lock up for nearly 4 months and could face a total of a decade or more in prison. Authorities at an airport near Moscow claimed that the Brittney was found traveling with Hash oil, which is a sort of drug and banned in Russia. The chapter started from the airport authorities’ claims and after 4 months she is yet to be cleared of any charges.

Roy Jones Jr is said to have good relations with Vladimir Putin and even though he was born in Florida USA, he got Russian citizenship in 2015 because of President Putin. After lots of news and fuss around the imprisonment of Grinner, Roy spoke publicly about his desire to help in the situation. He said, “Would I put my life on the line, take a chance to go to Russia to exchange prisoners? Yes, I would. Because if [Brittney] was my daughter, I would want somebody to do the same thing for me.”

Roy explained his position in the situation as he said, “I had a friend, a couple of my friends that I knew, I called and I asked him ‘Is there any way we can try to facilitate?’ because I don’t do politics. I’m a sports figure and they love me as a sports figure. ‘Is there any way we can use my sports influence to possibly can get anything arranged to help get Brittney home?'” As per Roy, a “prisoner exchange.” could be a solution to fast-track Brittney’s way back home.

As per Hall of Famer Boxer’s claims, he had already made some arrangements over there and Russians would be ready to let Brittney go over Prisoner exchange. He said, “My friend called and he called me back and he said, ‘yes, they said they’d be willing to do a prisoner exchange.’ I said, ‘Well it’s probably rough because the prisoner exchange is probably a real prisoner.’ She’s not necessarily a person that’s a real prisoner but I’m sure that maybe the U.S. will be understanding of this and get her back home because I’d be terrified if my kid was stuck in a foreign country in jail, you know?”

Roy seems to be on a mission to bring the star back to her homeland. He had not clarified his friends in the said context but they are trustworthy and very close to Putin.

Giving bit idea over the friends Roy said, “One of my guys is like — he’s the right-hand man to the office of Mr. Putin, so he’s high up on the political scheme. He’s a reporter and he usually does most of the reporting for Mr. Putin so he can go make direct contact with whoever necessary to help me.”

Everyone would be hoping for ways to bring Grinner back and hopefully, people in positions would find the right way to do so.
