“Giving him high five in the tunnel,” Sabrina Ionescu recalls meeting Steph Curry at age 10 ahead of All-Star three-point contest face off
Stephen Curry is still the obvious favorite to win the 3-point contest against Sabrina Ionescu.

Sabrina Ionescu‘s journey has come a long way. From a 10-year-old idolizing the greatest shooter in NBA history in the name of Stephen Curry, to now facing him 1v1 in a 3-point challenge in the coming days. And it’s more than a dream, especially since the first day the player met her idol, which she recently recalled from years ago. In an NBA interview, Ionescu said:
I have this picture up, I think I was about 10 years old and giving him a high five in the tunnel. Obviously, being from the Bay Area, he was that player that I idolized growing up.
And it can’t get any better as both superstars are set to face each other for a 3-point contest, as Curry has accepted the challenge from Ionescu. Stephen Curry, arguably one of the best shooters the NBA has and will ever see, will be facing the 2× WNBA All-Star. Ionescu scored 37 points in the final round of the 2023 3-point contest, setting the all-time record for both the NBA and the WNBA.
It would certainly be a showdown, but more importantly, a dream come true for the 26-year-old to not only get a chance to meet his idol again but challenge him to a 3-point competition. As excited as we are, she herself would be buzzing with the prospect.
Sabrina Ionescu to face Stephen Curry in a 3-point contest
History repeats again. Not exactly one of those big glamour events but any competition between these pair is always competitive. Ask Stephen Curry, who probably wouldn’t want to talk about the last time both played a game of HORSE and how it ended.
We have these absolute shooters play a few games of pickups and casual shootings, but can they both compete under the big spotlights with an actual arena with fans? Well, fortunately, both have agreed to play a 3-point event against each other which will be held on February 17. The pit is all set for the “Stephen vs Sabrina” show, and it’s going to be a big one given both players’ calibers and arsenal.
The stage is set and fans can’t help but witness one of the best shooters of basketball from both men’s and women’s categories go head-to-head. It will be raining threes is what every fan expects, when the showdown eventually takes place.
