As he believes Damian Lillard has made up his mind already and is securing the bag out there to have his next generation’s future secured instead of risking it all in an attempt to get a ring and also he has all the rights to do so. Even Shannon Sharpe understands that as the risk-reward ratio completely changes once the guard steps out of Portland and yeah then he’ll also be trolled for being a ring-chaser and unloyal to the organization.
Damian Lillard is really a real one for the Portland Trailblazers and surely he is appreciated by the franchise. As it’s been a decade and he’s still there grinding since day 1 and has never ran from it or even tried to force his way out. The Trailblazers haven’t seen any great success in the last years and the story is very same for their leader and All-Star guard who has plans of sticking with the organization. As he believes it is a smart decision to secure the bag for future instead of risking it all for just an attempt to end on the fortunate winning side. As you never know what happens and how things go down for him once he leaves the Blazers. So discussing and debating it all with Skip Bayless at Undisputed, Shannon Sharpe quoted: “He’s too great of a talent… Talk about generational wealth at the end of his contract Dame will have made 400 million dollars in just NBA and not counting what he has done off-court. So he’s gonna be set up three-four generations for the rest of their life.”
Further Shannon Sharpe continued: “Dame is looking at it like this ‘Yes, I want to compete for a title’ but he’s probably saying ‘ain’t no guarantee if I left I’ll win somewhere else.’…I want to see him in a Big-Time NBA Finals but I know that’s not gonna happen in Portland and unfortunately, he says being loyal to the soil is more important to him than chasing a championship. He says it wouldn’t mean as much as to him if he wins a title outside of Portland…If he doesn’t win a title, I don’t think Dame will have any regrets. … He’s done what he’s set out to do, and that’s to secure his family for the rest of their lives, and their kids’ lives.”
Shannon Sharpe has correctly explained it all and there’s no better reasoning so far than it for Damian Lillard to stay loyal with the franchise. Of course, there are also emotions behind his decision as it isn’t easy to leave a team behind who brought you in and gave you some great opportunities. But it’s high time now for the front office of Portland Trailblazers to bring in some solid supporting cast for Dame if they want to win. As they have already parted ways with CJ McCollum and started to rebuild their team.
