“Guys like that don’t grow on California trees” Shannon Sharpe believes a player like Kevin Durant will be born only once in three generations
Kevin Durant and Shannon Sharpe
Shannon Sharpe recently made it to the NBA headlines as he is riding with the Brooklyn Nets for demanding as much as they can in exchange for Kevin Durant. They also have all the rights to do so. Since the Nets have given away their future for setting up the roster which is now about to dismantle. As James Harden has already left, Kyrie Irving’s future is uncertain and now KD has requested a trade. So it’s not really the organization that’s at fault but it’s the individuals who are unloyal and selfish. So Shannon Sharpe and many others understanding the situation the Brooklyn Nets are stuck in claim them to be doing what’s right. As they have one of the greatest scorers ever in league history who is also a megastar to offer on the trade block.
It’s been a month since Kevin Durant has requested a trade but still, he’s right there where his $198 million contract extension till 2025-26 season was done and yeah that’s the Brooklyn Nets who gave him the well-deserved bag. But now he wants out and that’s understandable as Kyrie Irving’s future with the franchise is still uncertain even though he is ready to hoop with or without KD with the Nets. There have been many offers made and rejected for acquiring the deadly seven-footer. The most recent one was by Boston Celtics which made the headlines. It was a fair deal but got rejected as the Nets demanded more. First, it looked like the Nets are overvaluing KD but after Shannon Sharpe’s new take on the situation they are at no fault.
Shannon Sharpe on the Brooklyn Nets demanding the most they can for trading Kevin Durant
Shannon Sharpe had his mind and words very clear while discussing the situation as he thinks the reason behind them demanding more is because they really deserve more when they are giving up a talent like him. As on Undisputed, he quoted: “At least we have something, at least the Nets countered their offer. The Nets are not gonna take no low offer, what do you mean? This is a house in Malibu, this is a house in Bel-Air, they’re not gonna take no low ball offer. You’re not in the valley, you gonna pay premium price for a guy like that. Guys like that don’t grow on California trees. Guys like that come along once in a generation, once in three generations.”
Shannon Sharpe brought in some real estate examples and it made sense. As Kevin Durant is really the asset one won’t willingly give up and if he does he’ll try to get the best or maximum possible return. The analyst also mentioned how the Nets can keep him as he is under contract and get the job done with correct pieces. But he also mentioned that “They don’t want to move KD, but if they have to move KD. They are going to get damn near their asking price or as close as we possibly can to get. Before you get Kevin Durant services.”
Shannon Sharpe also focused on the fact that the Boston Celtics really gave a fair deal for the exchange and they might get it done with some changes made in the offer. The Celtics offered Jaylen Brown, guard Derrick White and a draft pick to the Nets for KD. But the Nets’ demanded the DPOY Marcus Smart and some more picks and swaps in the offer, which now is pretty understandable and a deal close to it can get the exchange done. But still, Kevin Durant’s future in the league is very uncertain but soon the picture will be very clear.
