“Putting up 38 & 6 is holding his end of the bargain” Shannon Sharpe believes LeBron James did everything possible to stop Lakers’ 2021-22 season’s misery

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers star-studded team not making into the playoffs was and is one of the biggest talking points in and around the world of NBA. While plethora of former All-Stars struggled to make an impact, the 4-times NBA Champ had a large impact game after game, to keep his team in the postseason hunt. On the same note, Shannon Sharpe believes that LeBron did what he could.

Shannon Sharpe on Undisputed, had some strong words in defense of LeBron James. LA Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets were the championship favorites coming into the 2021-22 season. Both teams were decked up with superstars. Lakers having LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis among other stars; While the Nets had the trio of KD, Kyrie and James Harden. That being said, the Nets got swept in the first round of playoffs, even worse, the Lakers failed to make it to the playoffs.

LeBron being a superstar and the face of the team, had people blaming him for the fallout. The superstar gravity of LeBron attracted the curses of many upset and several shocked fans.

According to Shannon Sharpe, LeBron is not be blamed for the fallout. He accepts that the LeBron in the league today, is no more the MVP caliber player he once was on the court. He even accepts that not all LeBron critics are wrong. ‘LeBron gets compared to the 25 year old LeBron, the 30 year old LeBron. He does not get compared with other 37 year olds.’

He later goes on to explain that, LeBron being older now, can not contribute for long stretches or play at both ends of the court. Shannon, in his assessment, is not wrong. Every player faces their worst enemy, time and aging. LeBron, aged 37, is quite old now. Expecting an MVP LeBron from him is not the right call. What LeBron brings to the court is not an award winning athlete but one a player who has studied the league in and out. LeBron brings the much needed experience to the court. This can be seen when LeBron hits game winning plays or makes plays that outwork the opposite the team.

The former NFL player explained how LeBron had other players along side him but could not prove to impose their worst and hype. LeBron wanted them in his team but he did not want a poor shot making from Russel Westbrook nor did he anticipate Anthony Davis to sit most of the season out with an injury. LeBron might have had his part in making the team but he did not have the players instructed to make those poor shots or have those bad plays, that costed them the fallout.
