The world of NBA has been left amazed as Ja Morant led Memphis Grizzlies since the beginning of 2021-22 season. Been a special player ever since he arrived in the league, Morant was always known for his natural athletic ability but in the current season, he has gone onto exceed all expectations in bullying his way past marquee defenders and veteran DPOY candidates.
Out of the many bold and brutal analysts Morant has been able to impress in this season, Shannon Sharpe in among the top ranks. The sports media personality has often praised Morant for his natural game-play skills and scoring prowess. But this time around, Sharpe went one step ahead and compared Ja Morant to the likes of Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook, before their injuries.

Ja Morant has reached new heights in the 2021-22 season after winning the Most Improved Player accolade. While discussing the same on “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed,” the question of whether Morant has arrived as a bonafide superstar was raised, upon which Sharpe said, “He is a star. He is on the rise, but I wouldn’t label him a superstar just yet. He has that freakish athletic ability like D-Rose (Derrick Rose) pre-injury, like Russ (Russell Westbrook) pre-injury.
“He has that ability to play above the rim. He’s not a great outside shooter, like these guys weren’t. But if he gets hot, he can make you pay. So, when I look at him, he is a burgeoning superstar. He’s not quite there yet.”
That being said, Morant has currently dragged his team past the Minnesota Timberwolves in game 5 of their first-round series, with a sublime game-winning layup. Now with Game 6 all set to unravel on away turf, it will be interesting to witness how Morant is able to adjust his game, as he will have thousands of Wolves’ fans behind his back all the time. Will the 22-year-old embrace his legacy by making his team reach the second-round? Or are we heading to Game 7 for the first time in these playoffs? Remains to be seen.
