News of Ja Morant parting ways with his longtime agent, Jim Tanner, led Gilbert Arenas and Shannon Sharpe to talk about the implications of the change and what it means for the Memphis Grizzlies star. They made their views known on the latest episode of the “Nightcap” podcast.

Both Gilbert Arenas and Shannon Sharpe agree that he is ready to rebuild his career after a turbulent end of last season. However, Agent Zero believes that the move points at a young player setting himself up to be the great player the sport needs him to be, as he has done a great job staying out of trouble since coming back.

I think he’s cleaning house. He’s surrounding himself with smarter people, people who are going to take him to that next step… I think everybody just can’t wait until next year with him. And I think he’s just going to this summer’s going to be a real rebranding for him.
Gilbert Arenas said

Ja Morant has been rebuilding his reputation that had been derailed following a series of disciplinary issues, including the notorious gun-flashing incident at a club that he published on Instagram Live. All of this earned him a lengthy ban by the league authorities, which led to him missing a chunk of games, 25 games to be precise, for his team.

However, there’s this school of thought that his inner circle is to blame for his poor disciplinary record, aside from his sharing the blame for his poor decision-making. Furthermore, whether letting go of his agent is one of the proactive steps he wants to take to build back his career or not, it’s a step in the right direction to convince his critics that he can match the talent with the right attitude.

Ja Morant’s shoulder surgery has him ruled out for the rest of the season

Ja Morant, as announced by his team, the Memphis Grizzlies, the two-time All-Star, will miss the rest of the season to repair a tear in his right shoulder. He sustained the injury during training and has been spotted wearing a sling.

Following ongoing soreness and instability, Morant underwent an MRI that revealed an underlying labral tear.
The team said in a statement

Although the league had granted his team a disabled person exception, his initial 25-game ban had badly affected the Grizzlies who fell off after a great last season. This season, they lie 13th on the Western Conference standings with a record of 27-51.
