“Let the man cook!” Shannon Sharpe and Gilbert Arenas sound off on today’s NBA coaches
NBA has evolved by leaps and bounds in the last couple of decades.
Gilbert Arenas and Darvin Ham
There are undoubtedly many differences between the games of today and those from the 1990s or earlier. Everyone usually talks about players and how they are much more robotic than gifted these days. Is it only the players, though? Today’s game has changed, including the players, coaches, and most importantly, the game itself. Gilbert Arenas, a former player who is currently an analyst, examined how dependable coaches are these days on paper.
Anybody might choose to hate their work as an NBA coach. Because the HC will take all the responsibility if the team loses and will receive less credit if the team wins. However, Arenas had little affection for the coaches.
Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas asserted during an interview with Shannon Sharpe on “Nightcap” that modern coaches are only “time managers” who are not truly instructing the game.
Most of them are not coaching. They have a piece of paper that tells them when they are gonna sub. Most coaches are time managers. They are not coaching the game.Gilbert Arenas via Night Cap podcast
While agreeing with Arenas, Sharpe also brought up the analytics and said coaches shouldn’t merely rely on them.
The beginning of it all came on Wednesday when they played the Kings, with Darvin Ham taking Austin Reaves out of the game. The Lakers were defeated when Ham pulled out Reaves, who was playing well and making baskets.
Gilbert Arenas says Kevin Durant’s sacrifice enhanced the legacy of the Warriors’
Gilbert Arenas felt sorry for Kevin Durant, the star player for the Suns, and referred to his time spent with the Golden State Warriors as a “sacrifice.” In addition to winning two titles with the Warriors, Durant won back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018. The Warriors have won four titles in the last ten years, two of which occurred during Durant’s tenure. Arenas believes that Durant changed the stars of the Warriors’ legacy.
While that same move cemented three players in the Hall of Fame, one as probably the best point guard I'd ever played, that's three players in the Hall of Fame, one as probably the best point guard I'd ever played, that's gonna get a statue. His sacrifice gave them that.Gilbert Arenas added
Although Durant received two championship rings and two MVP awards from the Warriors, Arenas contends that Durant’s public and fan image suffered as a result of the trade. Arenas asserts that this decision damaged Durant’s legacy by casting his accomplishments in a lesser light.
