Shannon Sharpe and Patrick Beverley

Patrick Beverley and the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Phoenix Suns after being on a good winning streak for the first time in the 2022-23 season. After the end of the game, the NBA community remains divided on the brawl that took place between Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns. With 3.55 remaining on the clock Devin booker blocked Austin Reaves, which later was declared a flagrant foul. Austin Reaves remained on the court as DeAndre Ayton and Devin Booker stood over him and stared him down.

Patrick Beverley took exception to the situation and rushed to Reaves’ rescue. Rushing Beverley shoved Ayton from behind and Ayton fell on the court, followed by players from both teams pushing each other on the court. Despite wide criticism from players and sports analysts, Shannon Sharpe said he was with Patrick Beverley on this one. Sharpe said, “I’m 1000% with Pat Bev… That was some Bush League stuff by Deandre Ayton.” Shannon also criticized Ayton and Booker for unnecessarily showing aggression without anything to their credit on the play. Sharpe said, “Sometimes for a teammate you have to throw caution to the wind and let these mofos know.”

The play on Austin Reaves was later declared as flagrant foul on Booker, as he hit Reaves’ face after blocking the ball. Deandre Ayton was also seen talking in Anthony Davis’ face after dunking the ball. Though Davis did not react to Ayton’s bullying, Deandre needs to be careful in talking smack to a player of AD’s caliber. Pointing out Devin Booker’s unnecessary taunting Shannon added, “..next time the Lakers play Phoenix, Devin Booker you’re on notice.”

Patrick Beverley is not only a great perimeter defender but also one of the players in the league teams want on their roster. As Beverley described himself as a “Foxhole guy” in the postgame media coverage, he is at least right about his all-in personality. Fans took to social media to stand in support of Beverley after he was ejected from the game. Skip Bayless, Sharpe’s co-host on Undisputed also came in support of Beverley, saying, “I don’t hate the way Pat Bev defended Austin Reaves.”
