“Who’s gonna guard me and Kobe?” Shaquille O’Neal believes 2001 Lakers would undoubtedly thump 2017 Warriors

Stephen Curry and Shaquille O'Neal
Shaquille O’Neal and Stephen Curry recently made it to the NBA headlines. As both of them exchanged their thoughts on an alternate universe match-up between the 2017 Golden State Warriors and 2001 Los Angeles Lakers. As expected both the superstars favored their team and were pretty confident about it and honestly if that match-up ever happened it will be going straight to the books. As we will get to spectate Stephen Curry, the Greatest Shooter of All-Time going against Shaquille O’Neal, the most dominant force in league’s history.

There’s no doubt about the fact of both the teams being great. As the 2017 Golden State Warriors had Stephen Curry the Chef himself with Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant and many other great talents too. While the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers had Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher, Horace Grant, Robert Horry and other great talents too. So it’s fair to say that the competition would be unreal and the results would also be very unexpected. But Shaquille O’Neal and the Chef who just got his hands on his first ever FMVP have their answers very clear.
Stephen Curry when asked about the hypothetical match-up between the two legendary teams he had his words very clear as he quoted: “At the end of the day, if you could match up in some alternate universe, us versus the 2001 Lakers, obviously we feel like we can win. I don’t know who would guard Shaq but I don’t know who would guard me and Klay either. We rockin’ with that. And three is better than two.” But Shaquille O’Neal isn’t a fan of this take as responding to it he had the 2001 Lakers which were led by him and Kobe Bryant winning it all.

Shaquille O’Neal responds to Stephen Curry’s take on 2017 Warriors vs 2001 Lakers

Shaquille O’Neal recently on his podcast “The Big Podcast with Shaq” gave away his detailed and strong reasoning for the 2001 Lakers winning over 2017 Warriors. As he quoted: “My team that went 15 and 1, that’s the best team ever created. I say we can win that, ‘cause who’s gonna guard me and Kobe, right? They say, obviously we feel like we can win, I don’t know who could guard Shaq but I don’t know who could guard me and Klay [Thompson] either, and three is better than two. I’ma lay they ass out. Steph, Klay, and KD [Kevin Durant]. I’ma touch they a*s all the way up. And you know who gonna have a lot of points? The center. They gonna have to double me…If they don’t dub me I’m going for 60 without the free throws. So that’s my rebuttal, and Steph you’re still my favorite player, I love you. But… That’s my rebuttal. Tell your lovely wife and the kids I say hello.”
Shaquille O’Neal surely had a better reasoning for the 2001 Lakers to win it all compared to what the Chef said for the 2017 Warriors. As Shaq correctly mentioned all the points including how Draymond Green would be destroyed by him in the paint and how great his and Dereck Fishers’ system will be while Kobe Bryant will take care of the business. Honestly, this take by Shaq really has the 2001 Lakers winning it all but again you never know as multiple players on both the sides are capable of turning the whole game around.
