“Don’t know what the f**k you’re talking about!” Shaquille O’Neal BLASTS analyst Mad Dog adding fuel to TV beef
Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo once claimed that Shaquille O'Neal is not a top-5 center in NBA history.
Shaquille O'Neal blasts Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo by saying he does not know the things players know, adding to their beef
Shaquille O’Neal is a Hall of Fame player who has extensive experience as a basketball player. His understanding of basketball is something that someone without playing experience will comprehend. This is why he has a problem with analysts who have no professional experience playing basketball but advise on the topic. He called out Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo again for adding to their already existing beef.
While talking on his podcast, The Big Podcast with Shaq, O’Neal talks about how analysts like Russo do not know what they are talking about. He stated that;
What people don't understand, if you were great like a Shaq and a Cam, to say whatever you want. Cause we've been there, done that at a high level since high school, college, and the pros. Like Mad Dog, what the f**k do you know. When to sports you don't know what the f**k you're talking about. I do.
O’Neal basically added to what his guest on the show former NFL MVP Cam Newton said about new media vs. old media. He mentioned that some things former players say may not sit well with old media people.
O’Neal took the previous comments from Russo to the next level with this rant. Russo suggested in a discussion on ESPN’s First Take that he does not consider O’Neal a top 5 center in NBA history. That did not sit well with O’Neal. He is widely considered one of the best, if not the best center, to ever play the game.
So essentially, O’Neal based his rant on the view that Russo had no clue what he was talking about, considering his lack of playing experience. To judge someone based on what stats and a TV broadcast say is pointless.
Old Media vs. New Media as per Shaquille O’Neal and Cam Newton
Cam Newton mentioned that nowadays the shift in fan viewership to new media suggests that they want to listen to former players. The logic behind it is what Shaquille O’Neal added, that players have real-life experience. Old media analysts have not played the game long enough to know how it works out. They give analysis based on what they are seeing and hearing.
Newton was lambasted by old media analysts for such a comment. But Newton clarified that he spoke from experience. O’Neal added that when a former player says something, they are speaking from experience. That experience has more value than what someone says based on just watching a game.
This is why Shaquille O’Neal brought back the beef he has with Chris Russo. According to O’Neal, Russo’s claim about O’Neal’s position in basketball history is not valid, considering he has no understanding of how the game is played.
