Shaquille O’Neal believes Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks had a failure of a season despite the Greek Freak disagreeing in his post-game interview. The Milwaukee Bucks became the first NBA team since the Chicago Bulls in 2012 to lose to the eighth seed as the one seed. The Bucks suffered a 128-126 overtime loss to the Miami Heat in game 5 to end their season in the first round.
“I played 19 seasons and failed 15 seasons. When I didn’t win, it was a failure,” said the 4x NBA Champion Shaquille O’Neal on NBA on TNT. Shaq’s comments come after Antetokounmpo’s post-game interview where he said – “Michael Jordan played 15 years and won 6 championships; the other years was a failure?” Giannis was asked by a journalist whether the Bucks’ season was a failure and went on a long rant on how he did not feel it was one.
“He’s not a failure of a player, but is it a failure of a season? I would say yes,” said Shaq. Antetokounmpo put up 38 points in the Bucks’ loss but was criticized for fumbling the game in overtime, going 3-10 from the field in the fourth quarter and overtime. “I can understand his explanation, but for me, when we didn’t win it was always my fault,” concluded Shaq.

The Milwaukee Bucks led by 16 points in the fourth quarter and still managed to lose to the Miami Heat. An inspired performance from the Florida franchise led by Jimmy Butler, who scored 14 fourth-quarter points and 42 points overall. However, the Milwaukee Bucks had a chance to avoid overtime and win the game in overtime, but head coach Mike Budenholzer botched it up.
Jimmy Butler tied the game with 0.5 seconds left on the clock, enough time for the Bucks to get a shot off. The Bucks also had a timeout so they could advance the ball. Instead, they inbounded it to Giannis in their court, who could not do anything but hold onto the ball as the clock expired. NBA Fans could not believe the Bucks ignored an opportunity to win the game.
In overtime, the Milwaukee Bucks were down by 2 points with 5 seconds to go and had two timeouts left. Mike Budenholzer once again decided not to call a timeout while Grayson Allen stumbled to the bucket, unable to get a shot off in time. The Miami Heat successfully took revenge over the Bucks for sweeping them in the 2021 playoff and have advanced to the Eastern Conference semi-finals against the New York Knicks.
