Shaquille O’Neal claims his dream team would’ve ‘easily’ beaten Michael Jordan’s dream team

Shaquille O'Neal and Michael Jordan

The Diesel, Shaquille O’Neal made his debut back in 1992. Before his debut, O’Neal was looked upon as the next dominant player in the NBA. In the same year, the Olympic basketball team sought help from the NBA, as players like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and Magic Johnson suited up to represent their country. The team assembled included the all-time greats, as it was named, the Dream Team.

While the 92 Dream Team went on to win the gold medal, they might’ve missed out on yet another key player. Recently, O’Neal revealed that he should’ve been on the very first Dream Team. In 1996, when Shaq first played in the Olympics, he termed that squad as Dream Team 3. Not only that, but ‘The Diesel’ is confident that the 1994 USA basketball team was better than the first Dream Team.

O’Neal termed the 1994 USA basketball team which competed in the world championship as Dream Team 2. This particular team included players like Shawn Kemp, Larry Johnson, and Alonzo Mourning. Whereas the 1992 Olympic team had MJ, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, and other great players. For Shaq to put a take where he ranks the 1994 Dream Team above Jordan’s 92′ team wouldn’t be so feasible.

Shaquille O’Neal was in a better squad back in 1996

The 96′ Olympic basketball team was a squad that could definitely give Jordan’s Dream Team a tough competition. In terms of size, Dream Team 3 had it all. Chuck, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, and David Robinson, this team did not lack size at all. When it came to shooting, the squad had John Stockton to look up to.

O’Neal was already a dominant force by his fourth year in the league. Going up against MJ’s squad with his Olympic team would’ve been a treat to watch. O’Neal also said that the 96′ Olympic Team would beat the upcoming squad for the 2024 Olympics. As the national team player pool was announced earlier this year, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Paul George, and other elite players are teaming up to form yet another Dream Team.

Shaq’s takes may be quite solid and brittle at the same time. It is only to wonder what would be a real-life outcome if these matchups were to happen.
