Great athletes in every sport tend to square and eventually slide off of each other. The famous feud between Shaquille O’Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was very similar. The NBA community holds the highest regard for the two legends of the game. Moreover, their success and contributions to the Los Angeles Lakers are considered paramount. However, neither of them were known to be fond of the other when Shaq played in the NBA; especially as a Laker.
The feud was speculated to be ignited as neither Shaq nor Jabbar was known to speak to each other. In fact, the Shaquille O’Neal-Kareem Abdul Jabbar feud was quite a popular celebrity feud at the time. However, almost 20 years later, both players publicly ended their supposed feud on live TV. Abdul-Jabbar initiated their reconciliation on the night when LeBron James broke his all-time scoring record.
Recently, NBA on TNT had an edition of ‘Tough Love’ where both Shaquille O’Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sat down and spoke to each other. In an otherwise much-anticipated interaction, Shaq apologized to Abdul-Jabbar for his role in the feud. He also said that the Laker veteran not speaking to him made him hungry to play better and impress him. However, like everything else, there are quite a few fans who weren’t left very impressed with Shaq.

NBA Twitter reacts to Shaquille O’Neal’s apology
Although the majority of the NBA fandom was happy to see the two greats have a chat, there was a tad few who weren’t. Most people’s resentment towards Shaquille O’Neal comes from his tendency to burn bridges with other players frequently. Moreover, many fans also dislike Shaq because of his feud with Kobe Bryant. Therefore, his apology to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did very little to impress them.
Although he’s received some criticism, there have been many who have shown love and appreciation to both Shaq and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. After all, despite their differences, they both are considered greats of the game. There’s no doubt that the public end to the feud has left fans glad that the two former Lakers can finally see eye to eye.
