Shaquille O’Neal, a 7’1-feet tall Hall of Famer, who brought down billboard’s and terrorized not only defenses but troops of Gorillas when he visited the Zoo. Shaq is a beloved character in the NBA who keeps giving us hilarious moments on the ‘NBA on TNT’ and on ‘The Big Podcast’ with Shaq’. In an episode of ‘The Big Podcast With Shaq‘ during January, Shaquille O’Neal revealed his personal experience with zoos. Shaq mentioned that he has been to several zoos in the world. But whenever he goes to the gorilla captivity, they often start reacting like O’Neal is one of them.
Shaquille O’Neal isn’t just one of the most dominant players in the NBA ever, he is also one of the most hysterical people on and off the court. Shaquille O’Neal enjoyed tremendous success during his NBA career as he won 4 NBA titles to go with a 3 Finals MVPs and one regular-season MVP.
He is probably also the most destructive center the league has ever seen and will ever see in the near future. He was the guy that used to destroy the paint and even break rims because of his enormous body size. Shaquille O’Neal is marked as 7’ 1” inches tall, with a wingspan of 7’ 4” and weighs around 325 pounds, his shoe size is 22. Maybe his enormous size is what gets the Gorillas confused !
“Hey man, where your fur at?” – Shaquille O’Neal narrates hilarious incident with the Gorillas, at the Zoo
On Shaquille O’Neal’s, “The Big Podcast with Shaq”, one of the most popular sports podcasts, Shaq hilariously described how the interaction between him and the Gorillas in a zoo is. The former NBA legend explained that gorillas freak out when he shows up at zoos and that they want to fight him. Shaq even called an executive from Zoo Miami during the podcast who confirmed the tale.
“Hey, true story, I promise you. I went to every zoo in the world. I’ve been to every zoo in the world. And every time I go to the gorilla section, they look at me like, ‘Hey man, where your fur at?’ Nah, for real, for real. That’s how they look at me. And then they also look at me like, ‘Hey, what am I doing in here and you out there?’ Then they always go crazy when they see me outside. I promise you. I promise you.” Shaq narrated.
Yes, this is a true story, and very believable too, considering Shaq’s mammoth size. Even the Zookeepers confirmed this story by Shaq. A zookeeper at the Miami zoo, Ron Magill, explained –
“The gorilla gets intimated, and he looks at Shaq and thinks that Shaq is going to take away his girls, and he gets tight-lipped and tries to stand up and make himself look as big as possible. But at the end of the day, he backs off. He knows who’s boss.”
Shaq was a nightmare for any player who had the duty to guard him. And because of this inhuman size of his, The Diesel was able to command over the paint on both sides of the court, night in and night out for nearly two long decades. This story is just testimony to how humor is one of his strong suits, and it isn’t just limited to his podcast. Now imagine if Shaq can scare a 500-pound Gorilla, what must his opponents have felt when they saw him charging down the court!
