“LeBron is the greatest player of all time?” Shaquille O’Neal makes sure Kobe Bryant is included in the GOAT conversation
Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal
Shaquille O’Neal has been a real one for Kobe Bryant. They had their differences late in their basketball career but got it all settled in retirement and that was really necessary or else a friendship which has to be remembered would have been ruined for life. Today when Kobe Bryant isn’t with us but of course he lives forever, we have Shaquille O’Neal doing everything possible from his side to defend his legacy. As fans, analysts, T.V show hosts and many media members around the league are forgetting how great Black Mamba really was, as they have stopped mentioning him in most of their comparative debates regarding G.O.A.T.
Kobe Bryant retired in 2016 as an MVP, 18x All-Star, 5x champion, 12x All-Defensive player, 2x Finals MVP, 4x All-Star game MVP and has multiple All-NBA Team selections. Adding to it he also has many individual awards and honors. But still, all these (not even half of his achievements) aren’t enough for him to get a spot in the G.O.A.T conversation. As most of the times, he is on the forgotten list even though greats like Michael Jordan (G.O.A.T for many around), Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson believe that he is and was that guy. But the media has probably decided to just sleep on all these facts. Thanks to Shaquille O’Neal for being a real teammate off the court too and showing off his special and emotional relationship with Kobe Bryant.
Shaquille O’Neal has been defending Kobe Bryant’s legacy all the way
From the past years, Shaquille O’Neal has been calling out and defending Kobe Bryant’s legacy in many of his media interactions and interviews. As he knows how Great Kobe was since he wasn’t just spectating the journey but was also a part of it for years where they won and ruled the league. Some of Shaquille O’Neal’s best quotes while defending Kobe Bryant’s legacy are mentioned here below:
(When asked about G.O.A.T but the options didn’t have KOBE) “How come Kobe’s name is never brought up? I think it’s kind of disrespectful if you ask me.” And (When asked about players like Kobe in today’s league) “Nobody, stop it. Nobody (is close to Kobe). Would you stop it? I don’t compare anybody to Mike, but if I had to answer the question, Kobe is the closest thing to Mike. And is there somebody that’s close to Kobe? No.” And (During the G.O.A.T) debate “You said LeBron James is the greatest player ever? What about Michael and Kobe, you just gonna pass Kobe up like that?”
The fans are really forgetting Kobe Bryant but it’s really nice to see that Shaquille O’Neal and a few other real ones aren’t on that list. As they defend their guy possible every time they had a chance to. Black Mamba actually deserves a lot of respect for the way he played the game and influenced millions of people but unfortunately, that’s not the case and the media is just sleeping on him and his greats which can never be achieved again by any other star.
