LA Lakers icon Shaquille O’Neal has a number of talents. Apart from being one of the most dominant basketball players of all time, Shaq is also a DJ, actor, philanthropist, and also a bit of an entrepreneur.

O’Neal is also one of the most entertaining personalities related to NBA TV. Always willing to have fun, his exchanges with Charles Barkley in particular have led to a host of entertaining moments for fans, over the years. That also seems to be true when it comes to his teammates.

During a recent segment of his The Big Podcast, the LA Lakers legend went into detail into how he would encourage his teammates to bet against him. He claimed that he and his teammates would watch the Maury Povich show on a daily basis.

The show would be aired at 10 AM, and involved couples and ex-couples who wanted DNA tests to determine whether their kids were actually theirs. Shaq revealed that he had bet thousands of dollars on the show:

Every morning at 10 AM, we would wake up with thousands of dollars and we would watch the Maury Povich show, and we made bets on who the father is. So like everyday we would watch it, we watch them talk and then we pause. Then we pull that money. I bet thousands of dollars, so that was my thing.

Of course, considering Shaq has a whopping net worth of $400 million, betting away thousands of dollars on something as mundane as a show is not a huge issue.

The Lakers icon has made it a point to ensure that he is widely recognized for the kind of philanthropic efforts he has managed in the last few decades. Shaq, to be fair to him, has a range of different initiatives that he is involved in on a regular basis.

Apart from having his own charity foundation that works for the betterment of children, he also hosts programs such as Shaqmas, where he shows up with gifts for children in need.

O’Neal has been involved with various charitable organizations such as Be the Match, a bone marrow donation organization, and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition.

Furthermore, he has also been involved in initiatives aimed at building educational institutes for developing countries. O’Neal has created Free the Children, the Boys and Girls Club, and his very own The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation to ensure that he gives back to society as well. Hence, while he may have been guilty of betting away thousands of dollars, he has more than done his part for the betterment of others.
