During his early years, Shaquille O’Neal lived in Wildflecken, Germany. Shaq’s step-father, a Drill Sergeant, was deployed to Europe, taking the family with him. O’Neal attributes much of his success to his father, who instilled in him the qualities of hard work and discipline that allowed him to become one of the greatest NBA players ever as well as have one of the most successful post-playing careers ever. The legendary LA Lakers player recently talked about a near-death encounter he had in Germany. The Hall of Famer talked about his youth and labelled himself troublesome during that time. He also spoke about a near-death encounter that altered his life irrevocably.

O’Neal’s childhood was marked by discipline because his family had to move to Germany when he was still a teenager due to his stepfather’s military profession. O’Neal spoke at “An Evening with Shaquille O’Neal” on Thursday in Melbourne, Australia. During the conversation, he discussed a variety of subjects. O’Neal spoke of his younger self, who occasionally endured harsh treatment from his father to keep him in line. When O’Neal was 16 or 17, he and his buddies went out drinking one night, and O’Neal claims that this is when he had a near-death experience that transformed his life.

Shaquille O’Neal is regarded by many as being the most dominant player in NBA history over its 75-year history. Shaq and his near death experience in Germany

In an interview for the programme called “An Evening with Shaquille O’Neal,” he discussed an incident that transformed his life. It occurred during a snowstorm in Germany. O’Neal, who was 16 or 17, was drinking with his friends. Shaq refused to get in the car when they planned to travel on a road trip, which led to an accident in which no passengers survived. He said: “Something told me not to get in the car. I didn’t get in the car and everybody in the car passed away.” He continued by stating: “After that I was like, You know what? I have to be a leader. I can’t just follow guys because I’m trying to be cool.'”

O’Neal and his family left Germany in his second year of high school and moved back to the United States. They made their home in San Antonio, where Shaq excelled in high school. After that, he spent three seasons playing at LSU and later embarked on his journey to the NBA. Shaq also praised his son’s talent and shooting technique while during the interview in Australia. Additionally, he feels that Shareef should have some sort of nasty character since he is too sweet on the floor.
