LA Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal recently responded to an Instagram post asking fans a simple question. Instagram user swishshots2023 posted a video comparing the centers of the previous generations with the current one. The first part of the clip focussed on Centers of the present and gave a look at some big men highlights from recent years.
This included mid-rangers and 3-pointers from the likes of Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren, and Taco Fall. While all players are capable of producing brutal dunks inside the paint, the clip showcased some of their longer shots, something Shaquille O’Neal was not good at.
The second part of the clip was effectively a tribute to Shaquille O’Neal and his dominant displays during his LA Lakers days. The former Center is regarded as one of the most dominant attackers inside the paint, and the video was mere evidence of that fact. It asked the following question:
You think this generation would stand a chance against Shaq?
O’Neal himself took the chance to respond, and claimed that he was effectively the reason bigger centers had to develop a more all-round game. Shaq wrote the following on the clip:
I'm the reason why they shoot threes and i'll make more twos then they will make threes, u kno cuz they gonna b n foul trouble, and stop askin dumb ass question
The Lakers legend was talking about how the modern game has seen a higher volume of 3-pointers, and his dominance inside was one of the reasons the NBA changed the rules regarding zonal defence. Of course, he could not help but follow up with the claim that he would have made more 2s today, than most Centers in the league.
Shaquille O’Neal created an impressive legacy after his NBA career
Shaq might today be most known for his hilarious stints on TNT’s Inside the NBA. However, after a successful NBA career that saw him win 4 NBA titles, Shaq has followed it up by becoming one of the biggest sports philanthropists of all time.
A net worth of $400 million is a result of a series of smart investments across a range of industries, which Shaq has used to the best of his abilities. Ranging from his Shaq-A-Claus initiative to his multiple charitable trusts, O’Neal has ensured that he gives back to the society, just as much he receives.
Shaq did not come from a wealthy family and was effectively raised by his stepfather, the late Sgt. Phillip Harrison, who instilled in him the discipline and focus that eventually saw him become an NBA legend. O’Neal went on to surpass his strict father’s expectations and carved out a multi-field career that spans across music, movies, and entrepreneurial initiatives.
