Shaquille O’Neal is considered one of the best centers in the history of the NBA. The big man receives love from fans for both his amazing career as a player and his personality outside the game. After retiring in 2011, O’Neal is still very much active in the NBA world. The star is one of the hosts of ‘Inside the NBA’ on TNT and also has his podcast.
In the recent episode of the ‘Big Podcast with Shaq’, Mario Chalmers appeared as a guest. Chalmers has not played in the NBA since 2018. He said he missed playing in the league and referred to today’s game as being ‘easy’ for point guards. After that, the topic of guards making a lot of money today was brought up.
Shaquille O’Neal asked Chalmers, “Be honest. The money that these guards are making, does it upset you?” While asking the question O’Neal mentioned Rudy Gobert and admitted that the money bothers him. Further into the podcast, O’Neal took another jibe at Gobert, calling out the player’s stats. O’Neal said

Gobert is averaging 13.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists this season which is very close to what O’Neal said. The player is currently on a five-year $205 Million deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In O’Neal’s final year before retiring the center was averaging 9.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists and had a two-year deal of $3 Million with the Boston Celtics.
Rudy Gobert recently fined $100k for a gesture towards the referee
On Friday, the Timberwolves played against the Cleveland Cavaliers. During the game, Gobert made a money sign towards the referee Scott Foster after he was called for his 6th foul of the game. The foul resulted in the player getting ejected from the game. The gesture resulted in a technical foul for the center.
After the game, Gobert talked about the gesture. The player admitted that his reaction was “immature”. And said that he was prepared to take the fine.
Gobert’s gesture and words caused him to get a $100k fine from the NBA as announced on Sunday. The NBA wrote in the released statement, “Rudy Gobert has been fined $100,000 for directing an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture toward a game official, and publicly criticizing the officiating.” This is the fourth time Gobert has been fined in his career for criticizing the officials publically.
