“Her name is Ana Sthesia, she’ll help you forget everything” Shaquille O’Neal used dad jokes to comfort Shareef before heart surgery

Shaquille O'Neal and Shareef O'Neal
Shaquille O’Neal after a dominant career in the NBA became a successful analyst on Inside The NBA where his takes laced with humor often go viral, but it seems comedy is not strictly for television as he used dad jokes to comfort Shareef O’Neal, his son before his heart surgery.

In 2018, Shareef underwent surgery as he faced complications physically and while playing the game. Thankfully, the future NBA prospect’s surgery was successful. In a recent interview on The Dan Patrick Show, Shaq spoke about how he comforted his son before the surgery, “He was terrified. “You know, I always told myself that it’s stories that calm me down and get me to the next level,” Shaq said.
“So he was scared right before the surgery, and he had a little tear in his eye. I told him he should be, however when you enter that room, you’ll meet a young lady named ‘Ana Sthesia’ and you’ll forget everything. Her name is Ana Sthesia, and she is going to kiss you, he laughed, and ‘and then you’ll wake and everything will be fine.”
Shareef O’Neal’s journey to the NBA

In 2022, O’Neal declared for the NBA though at the disapproval of his father. He went undrafted but played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA 2022 Summer League where he was paired up with Scotty Pippen Jr. son of Bulls Legend Scottie Pippen. In his debut, Shareef averaged 4.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 10.9 minutes per game. O’Neal signed a six-figure contract to play for the Nevada-based G League Ignite next season, The Athletic reported Monday. O’Neal confirmed the signing on his own social media, writing “VEGAS LETS DO IT !! Thank you Ignite,” on Twitter.
His debut in the summer league with the lakers, saw him struggling against other top draft picks, but with reports of interest in his athleticism and determination throughout the summer. The time he’ll spend in the developmental league will be a productive step for the young player.
