Draymond Green struck Jusuf Nurkic in the face during Tuesday’s Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns game. The four-time champion was suspended by the NBA indefinitely, and it is clear that the veteran forward must fulfill specific requirements before he can play again. However, Hall of Famer and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal offered an intriguing observation regarding Green’s suspension.
Adam Silver suspended Draymond, and it was less than 24 hours when he was banned. O’Neal made the statement alongside Babcock and Charles on “TMZ Live” on Thursday. O’Neal claimed that if he were the league commissioner, he would only suspend Green for a few games, and he had no intention of hitting Nurkic. According to Shaq, Green would only receive two games if he were the NBA commissioner.
This is what Shaquille O’Neal said:
I don't think Draymond said, 'Hey, I'm going to punch this guy just 'cause he's pulling my jersey.' He was just trying to spin around. He is an honest player, and what happened was unfortunate. I would give him two games.Shaquille O’Neal via TMZ Sports
Shaquille O’Neal ranks sixth all-time in the NBA ejection chart, having been ejected 14 times in his career. It’s Draymond’s second suspension in as many months. He is second on the all-time list with 19 ejections, the most of any active player.
Rudy Gobert feels empathy for Draymond Green
Rudy Gobert has experienced being on the receiving end of a Draymond Green incident in court. When the Golden State Warriors faced the Minnesota Timberwolves last month, Gobert was the victim of a Green chokehold. The French big man empathized with the four-time NBA champion despite their differences.
They questioned Gobert about Draymond during an interview with ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. Nonetheless, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year cared for his opponent. This is what Rudy Gobert said:
I have empathy for him, You see somebody that's not well inside and suffering. You take away the game and all that, and you want somebody to be well and be able to do what we do every night and compete and be happy.Rudy Gobert via ESPN
Rudy Gobert went on to say that he could understand Draymond Green’s indefinite suspension by the NBA. Gobert believed that the league must act to protect players when their safety was in danger. In terms of fairness, he is agnostic about how long Green might be suspended.
