New details about the accusations against Houston Rockets star Kevin Porter Jr. are being released to the public and things don’t look good for the young guard going forward. Following the incident, Porter Jr. was arrested on charges of assault and strangulation made by his girlfriend and former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick.
According to reports, the incident took place in a New York hotel room after a 911 call was made from the room after Porter assaulted Gondrezick and tried to strangle her with hands. Porter was then arrested by authorities and taken into custody for further investigation.
The reason why the altercation happened, as reports state, is that Porter Jr. went out to spend the evening alone, which upset his girlfriend. She locked the door. After Porter Jr. gained access to the room with the help of hotel staff, he proceeded to assault his girlfriend.
New reports regarding the case have surfaced. According to reports upon preliminary investigation by the authorities, it was determined that Porter struck his girlfriend multiple times, resulting in at least a broken bone and also tried to put his hands around her neck to try and strangle her.“A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a known individual struck her multiple times upon her body and placed his hands around her neck,” reports from NBC New York said.
What charges is Kevin Porter Jr. facing and how could it affect his career?

After Kevin Porter Jr. assaulted his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, he was taken into custody by authorities. He is charged with assault and strangulation of a woman, both of which are felonies. If found guilty by the court, he could face jail time for both felony charges. These charges could result in a lengthy prison sentence, impacting his basketball career.
He had just completed what was arguably the best season of his career with the Houston Rockets, averaging over 19 points. However, such charges could tarnish his image and make him a liability for any team. Notably, Miles Bridges of the Charlotte Hornets faced similar charges and didn’t play for an entire season, only to be reinstated by the Hornets, which generated significant backlash. It will be intriguing to see if Porter’s career can rebound after committing such a serious crime.
