“This was something I knew weeks ago” Sixers star Joel Embiid makes honest admission as Nikola Jokic wins MVP
Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid once again came too close to get his hands on the Most Valuable Player award but ended as the runner-up once again as Nikola Jokic gets the honor again. The official announcement of Nikola Jokic being the back-to-back league MVP had the internet divided as many believe Joel Embiid got robbed of the award and Nikol Jokic isn’t the deserving candidate to win. But all those claims and hot-takes change nothing as the Serbian Beast makes history. Both the individuals had strong regular seasons as they single-handedly carried their teams to the postseason. But the Nuggets leader just got the last laugh as he walked away with the MVP award.
The Golden State Warriors called a wrap for the Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets in the first round itself. While Joel Embiid battling through injuries led the Philadelphia 76ers to the eastern conference semifinals against the Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat. Many bring this sensible point up but defending it the Nuggets fan hit them back with Nikola Jokic making history during the regular season. As he finished the season with 2000 points, 1000 rebounds, and 500 assists first such season in the league’s history. So the topic is very debatable as fans go against each other while criticizing the league for robbing Joel Embiid.
But Joel Embiid doesn’t believes the same as he accepted the reality long back ago. After the 35-point blowout loss in Game 5 against Miami Heat where the leader Joel Embiid battled through injuries till the end, in the post-game opened up about losing to Nikola Jokic in the race for MVP. But he didn’t sound disappointed as he sounded like a man who knew it all already.

Joel Embiid on losing the MVP award to Nikola Jokic
Joel Embiid in the post-game interview discussing the MVP award and how he lost to Nikola Jokic once again in the race quoted: “This is something I knew weeks ago, even probably two weeks before the season ended, after those games against Denver and Milwaukee… I just knew it wasn’t going to happen. Obviously, congrats to Nikola, he deserved it, he had an amazing season. There’s no right or wrong, there was a lot of candidates. It could have gone either way. Giannis, Devin Booker being on the best team in the league by far, so I guess every year it’s all about whatever you guys decide, whatever fits the narrative as far as who’s going to win.”
Joel Embiid just accepted the fact like many others who backed up Nikola Jokic on basis of the criteria behind MVP voting. But he wasn’t disappointed with the decision as it is what it is but still he has the chance to get his hands on the bigger award. That’s the Finals MVP, the Philadelphia 76ers are still in the race to the finals and have a real shot at it this year. But it all comes down to the other players of the team especially James Harden as their all-star center Joel Embiid is injured but still suiting up for the team.
