“Somebody has to pay for what Harden-Embiid couldn’t do” Skip Bayless believes Doc Rivers has booked himself a seat at Lakers alongside ‘LeKing’ next season
LeBron James, Doc Rivers and Skip Bayless
Once again, the Philadelphia 76ers have been thrown out of the playoffs in the semi-final round with Doc Rivers leading the charge. With the veteran coach’s name already on the cards of LA Lakers list of eligible candidates, Skip Bayless feels that it is time for Rivers to join forces with LeBron James ahead of the 2022-23 season. Moreover the 70-year-old sports media analyst states it is only fair that Do Rivers’ time in Philly has come to an end.
With James Harden being abysmal in the playoffs yet again, Rivers could not make the best use of his squad. Furthermore, even Joel Embiid seemed to have lost all the spark after losing out of the MVP accolade to Nikola Jokic. As a result of which Heat beat Sixers in Game 6, only to let Bayless suggest a perfect destination for Doc Rivers.
Would Doc Rivers be joining the LA Lakers?
“Doc Rivers is done in Philly. Somebody has to pay for what Embiid/Harden couldn’t do. But I won’t be surprised if Doc is the next Lakers’ coach. He’s one of the few capable of navigating the politics and dysfunction and LeKing.”
Rivers managed to inspire the Philadelphia 76ers to secure top seed in the Eastern Conference last season, but the team bundled out against the underdogs, Atlanta Hawks in the semi-final round. After which, there were expectations from the veteran coach to undo his error form last season, in the 2021-22 playoffs. But having to give up Seth Curry and Andre Drummond does seem to hurt the coach on the offensive end.
More interestingly, his records display that he has not made it past the second round in more than a decade, there is no doubt that Doc Rivers is one of the best coaches in the league. The 76ers have an exciting team, but when a former MVP like James Harden plays poorly in the second half of a must-win game, there is not much Doc Rivers can do.
Where will Doc Rivers before the start of 2022-23 season? Remains to be a huge matter of speculation.
