“The best way to use Russ is to send him home” Skip Bayless blatantly disrespects Russell Westbrook again over the $47 Million price tag
Skip Bayless and Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook, LA Lakes are in news ever since their abysmal exit from the 2022 season exit. After trading Brodie on draft night in 2021, the Lakers found themselves in a pickle, sacrificing depth for star power proved to be a costly gamble, and now it seems unlikely they will be able to recoup any of their value. Safe to say the spoken off experiment failed miserably, and the franchise is on the brink of risking him to keep him for another season.
From the moment the trade went through, many considered them strong title contenders, but the reality was very different. On top of being a ball-dominant point guard, he is a rather inefficient shooter from beyond the arc. It didn’t help that injury hit franchise, and they finished 11th in the league, missing out on the playoffs, 2nd season in LBJ’s stay.
Russell Westbrook struggled greatly during his first season in LA. His 18.5 points per game were his lowest mark since his second year in the league back in 2010. The Lakers have tried to seek a trade, but there has been little to no market due to his massive contract. The 33-year-old athlete exercised his player option, allowing him to play one more season at the Lakers
Skip Bayless considers it “pointless” to play the star point guard Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook won the 2017 MVP Award, and multiple scoring championships, and led the league in assists also. His impressive resume put him on the 75th-anniversary team, despite being trophy-less. But Skip Bayless is not impressed with the 9-time All-Star. On a recent episode of FS1’s Undisputed, Skip Bayless weighed in on how the Lakers should address this problem next season. Despite the massive amount of money Russell Westbrook is owed, he thinks the team should just send him home indefinitely.
Bayless said, “If he can’t shoot, and he can’t hang on to the basketball, and you don’t want him running the point, and he doesn’t play defense, explain to me what you do want him to do? I’m back to what I said from day one… The best way to utilize Russell Westbrook next year, if you cannot get rid of him, is just to send him home.”
Westbrook will be earning just above $47 million in 2023 and will be the 2nd highest earner in the league. Sitting a player who makes a massive amount has been done before, but this is a completely different situation. Unlike the Rockets last year with John Wall, the Lakers are looking to get back in the title hunt, so they would want their entire roaster available for play and rotation.
Importantly it is the final year of LeBron’s contract, and who would look for a stronger team in order to challenge for the title. Even though he is a questionable fit, if the Lakers can’t find a trade, they will be handcuffed to playing Westbrook next season. Their supporting cast is not strong enough for them to just go without one of their All-Star caliber players on a nightly basis.
As per current status, Westbrook is still a Lakers’ point guard who can go out and do a little bit of everything. If the Lakers truly want to contend next season, they will need to find a way to make him impactful alongside LeBron and AD.
