Draymond Green had an off-night at the Chase Center and his poor offensive show may have cost Golden State Warriors the Game 1 of the NBA Finals.Sports media personality Skip Bayless was quick to target the Warriors’ DPOY, who has been already criticized for overexposure to the media before the in-court action.
Golden State Warriors are down 0-1 in the NBA finals, where they lost the game majorly in the 4th quarter to Ime Udoka’s charismatic squad. Boston Celtics rallied back from 12 point deficit at the end of the 3rd quarter and outscored the Warriors by 24 points in the last 12 minutes of the game. Though Golden State Warriors tried everything offensively, they failed to deal with the pressure defense of the Boston Celtics. Stephen Curry score 34 points in the game, while other stars failed to deliver on the big stage. Draymond Green, in particular, had a very bad night on the scoring front and Skip Bayless pounced on the opportunity to pinch the Warriors star where it would hurt most.
On Green’s offensive performance, Skip wrote, “Draymond Green has turned into an offensive liability. Wish he could shoot as well as he talks you-know-what.” Targeting Draymond for spending more time on the podcasts and TV shows in the middle of the NBA Finals clearly disturbed Skip Bayless. He sarcastically pointed out his “Talking” about the game and asked him to improve on shooting.
A poor offensive display by Draymond Green caused Golden State Warriors some important points in the game
Golden State Warriors have very explosive offensive stars and Draymond Green, along with Steph generally calls the shots by making pinpoint passing to the desired shooter. Boston Celtics defensively marked most of the players with their switching defense and gave some shooting space to Draymond. But Green unable to capitalize on it had a very rough shooting night, he was 2-12from the field, while both shots were layups.
Other than missing out on the jump shots – from any range, Green misses all 3 free throw attempts, failing to add any point to the team’s tally. Though Draymond is known for his defensive prowess and playmaking abilities, some offensive shots – particularly the open ones could have helped the Warriors spread the Celtics’ defense and score more.
Sports analyst Skip Bayless, understanding the use of Green, pointed out that he has been an offensive liability – as Boston could play 5 on 4 while defending – citing Green’s struggles from the field. Draymond ended up with 4 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists in the game – a considerable fall from his season averages.
Though this 3-time world Champion Golden State Warriors team is capable of bouncing back from the adversity, some scoring from Green and other stars would certainly be very handy while playing against League’s leading defensive team.
