“This is one WHITE American who’ll be anything but a bust” Skip Bayless sides with Chet Holmgren to be a terror in NBA
Skip Bayless and Chet Holmgren
Skip Bayless is finally a believer for someone and isn’t senselessly hating as he sides with Chet Holmgren to be the guy in the league very soon. Many are riding on the same bus with the T.V show host as even they believe that the new kid has the potential to take over and establish himself in the league. But of course, there’s time to it. The Oklahoma City Thunder drafted Chet Holmgren as the second pick overall and since then he has been in the NBA headlines. Skip Bayless also appreciates the efforts of OKC’s front office which passed on Jabari Smith. As he believes that’s the right decision even though he loved Paolo Banchero and Jabari Smith.
The NBA Summer League 2K23 has just started in Las Vegas and still, there are months remaining for the actual league to begin. But Chet Holmgren has already made it big and impressed many names around like Skip Bayless, Kevin Durant and others. He’s already getting compared with elite stars and superstars of the league and it also dates back to the history of the game. He’s a thin seven-footer and can do it all on the court. From attacking the rim, playmaking, using his vision, passing the ball, throwing dimes, being in transition to even locking the rivals up. So it’s fair to say that the future for him is bright as light if he’s developed and trusted enough.
Skip Bayless in recent episode of his podcast, “The Skip Bayless Show” compared Chet Holmgren with Bill Walton while discussing his game and overall skillset. While comparing the rook to the great one he quoted: “So it was two years ago that I began watching videos of a 7-foot, white center from Minneapolis named Chet Holmgren. I was mesmerized. I hadn’t seen this caliber of shooting skill, handle, passing gift, quick jumping ability, and shot-blocking anticipation since Bill Walton.” Skip also called the rook rare as we won’t really find players like him easily these days as he is full of talent and potential to be the main guy in the league.
Skip Bayless gives his flowers to Chet Holmgren
Skip Bayless further talking in detail about Chet Holmgren and what the world has seen so far from him and the future possibilities quoted: “The Chet Holmgren that we’ve seen so far in Summer League already has demonstrated to me that he can have a legit impact on NBA basketball games. Chet Holmgren is far closer to a beast than a bust. Yet, it’s still obviously very difficult for me to put beast and Chet in the same sentence. Because the 7-foot-1-inch kid still weighs all of 195 pounds. He is still so skinny that the idea of beast is still far out in the future.”
Skip Bayless is right with his take for the rook as he isn’t in great shape and is very thin right now. So getting bullied by other centers of the league can be a possibility for Chet Holmgren as he takes up the post role. But in the future after hitting the weight room the story can be turned around and he can be the bully. Further talking about Chets’ deep bag Skip quoted: “In Summer League games already, you can see the extraordinary skill on full display. The step-back 3s, the little left-handed jump-hooks in the lane. He made 15 of his first 15 free throws, taking the ball off the backboard and long-striding, it just takes my breath away…he’s got to play with more urgency, more intensity, just ultimately more force of will.”
Further comparing Chet Holmgren with other drivers in the race like Paolo Banchero and Jabari Smith. Skip Bayless quoted: “I really like Jabar, I really like Banchero but the upside is just too great to pass up Chet Holmgren. Gutt feeling long-term, This is one white American Center who will be anything but a bust.” Skip is strong with his words for the rookie and is really riding with him like many around. So it’s obvious that just like the fans even he can’t wait to spectate his performance once the season starts again as the expectations are higher than the ceiling.
