Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been one of the best players in the league for a good amount of time and he has done everything to prove that point right. Winning back-to-back MVP awards is a very rare occasion and being criticized over the second time is a tough one to come by. The player has been putting up monstrous numbers leading his team into the finals to win a championship, as they rightfully deserved.

This season the Greek Freak averaged one of his best seasons with 29.9 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game on 55.3% from the field on 3.3 turnovers. The Milwaukee Bucks had a very questionable start to their season but they have worked their way up the ladder to defend their title against teams as tough as them. The Bucks became the third team to advance past the first round of the playoffs to face the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

The Bucks took an immediate rise on offense outscoring the Chicago Bulls 34-18 in the first quarter alone. The team managed to keep it steady throughout the game before toning it down a little during the final few minutes of the game. They shot 49.4% from the field, 38.9% from three-point range, and 80% from the line.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led his team once again with 33 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists on 11-15 shooting. Pat Connaughton held a good rhythm on offense finishing with 20 points backed by 14 points and 17 rebounds recorded by Bobby Portis. The Bulls may have seen better days earlier in the season but their chemistry dissolved over time as the season progressed, mainly due to health and injury reasons.

What happened between the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics cannot be any less tragic. Obviously, being known as the best player in the world entails a job of carrying your entire team to the finals and possibly winning one. Kevin Durant failed to do that and the results got flak of criticism directed towards him. From being called a “Bus Driver” to a sidekick to a true champion, the player has heard it all.

Skip Bayless praised Giannis Antetokounmpo over the Game 5 victory on Twitter saying, “Now Giannis has an opportunity to prove HE’S the best player on the planet… against the team that knock Kevin Du-can’t off that throne. Giannis probably won’t have his closer, Khris Middleton. I’ll be watching closely.” The former MVP averaged 28.6 points along with 13.4 rebounds per game this series. Khris Middleton will potentially remain out for the following series due to his grade 2 MCL sprain which sidelines him for at least two weeks.
