After the Dallas Mavericks missed out on the playoffs, rumors swirled about Luka Doncic’s future with the team. However, the Slovenian point guard addressed these speculations and confirmed his commitment to the Mavericks, stating, “I’m happy here, there’s nothing to worry about.”
Despite his commitment to the Mavericks, Doncic acknowledged the need for change within the team. The Mavericks’ season has been a disappointment, and Doncic believes,“something’s got to change, for sure.” The team failed to make the play-in despite reaching the Western Conference Finals last year, and Doncic believes that reinforcements are needed on the roster. Doncic hopes to share a locker room with Kyrie Irving next season, believing that the two could form a strong partnership on the court.
“I think it’s a great fit. Obviously people are going to say no [and] look at the results we are having, but like I said, chemistry and relationships takes time. I wish he can still be here.”
“Something’s got to change, for sure,” Doncic said. “I mean, last year we went to Western Conference finals. We were having fun. I always talk about the chemistry we had. It was great. But something’s got to change for sure.”
Mavs owner Mark Cuban has also acknowledged the need to secure Doncic’s loyalty to the team. Cuban stated that Doncic would like to be with the Mavericks for his entire career, but the team needs to earn that loyalty. Cuban is aware that the team needs to strengthen in the market this summer to satisfy Doncic’s aspirations to be in contention for a ring.

The Dallas Mavericks’ season has come to an end in disappointment, with the team failing to make the play-in after a disastrous slump in form. In February, the team was fourth in the Western Conference and had a 96% chance of making the playoffs. However, the signing of Kyrie Irving failed to secure a place in the post-season, and the Mavericks finished 11th in the West with a 38-44 record.
The Dallas Mavericks had a disappointing end to their season after failing to make the playoffs in their final game against the Chicago Bulls. The team’s decision to retain a top-10 pick in the upcoming draft, rather than make a playoff push, was met with criticism from star player Luka Doncic. Doncic only played for 13 minutes in the game, and the NBA is now investigating the team’s “personnel decisions and conduct during the game.”
The Mavericks’ season has been a far cry from last year’s Western Conference Finals appearance, and changes will need to be made to ensure the team is competitive next season. Doncic’s commitment to the team is a positive sign, but reinforcements are needed on the roster. The investigation into the team’s conduct during the final game of the season could lead to sanctions, adding further disappointment to an already disappointing season for the Mavericks.
