It was a return for Spencer Dinwiddie to his hometown as he recently left the Brooklyn Nets and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. And while it was a deal that has raised a few eyebrows, the deal signed between the two teams is even more bizarre. While the NBA has provided some weird trades to strange contract agreements, this one could be one of them.

Despite being offered more wages by the Brooklyn Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie decided to join the newly crowned champions of the Inaugural In-Season Tournament, the Los Angeles Lakers. And with every deal, there were always bonuses. But in Spencer’s case, it was a rather unusual one as tweeted by a reliable source.

A tweet by Bobby Marks reads the following:

The Lakers signed Spencer Dinwiddie to the remaining portion of their non-tax mid-level exception. Here is the breakdown: Base 2023-24- $1,554,654 Incentive $1- If the Lakers win the NBA Championship.

As per the tweet, if the Los Angeles Lakers won the Championship, they would have to pay an incentive of $1 to the now ex-Brooklyn Nets star as part of the deal. And this isn’t the first time in Spencer Dinwiddie’s case, who had a similar deal when he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2022. While the Mavs failed to reach the criteria, it could be a different story for the Lakers. But only time will tell if this rather simple yet complex deal with go through.
