The San Antonio Spurs are going through a tough time. Tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz culminated in their 5th consecutive loss. Hall of Famer head coach Gregg Popovich was not impressed and sounded out a stern warning to his squad.

Speaking at the post-game press conference, Gregg Popovich was asked by Hector Ledesma of ClutchPoints about his team’s inability to play consistently for stretches. He responded by saying;

I need to demand from certain people it’s time they have to be more consistent or I make changes.

Gregg Popovich also mentioned some of the Spurs’ issues are down to their young squad. However, young or not, Popovich expects them to play consistently. Inconsistent play has led to regular losses, and the coach is intent for not allowing their youth to be an excuse for inconsistent play.

The San Antonio Spurs are the youngest team in the league this season with an average age of 23.52. Their star player is 19-year-old Victor Wembanyama who is playing in his first season after being drafted No. 1 by the Spurs this season. Still, as per coach Popovich, the young players have to pull up their socks and work towards getting better.

These young Spurs are led by the great Gregg Popovich who is currently the oldest and longest-tenured coach in the league. Having overseen the development of many players into all-stars throughout his tenure, there is not a better coach than Gregg Popovich. The youngsters have to learn and develop quickly.

San Antonio Spurs’ 5th consecutive loss had Popovich raging

The San Antonio Spurs headed into the game on the back of 4 consecutive losses. Victor Wembanyama was not ready to play proper minutes as he was still nursing a sore ankle. Despite the limited movement, Wembanyama put up 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 blocks in 24 minutes. Keldon Johnson led the Spurs with 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

It was not enough for the Spurs as they lost 118-130 to the Jazz. The Jazz were led by All-Star Lauri Markannen who tallied 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jordan Clarkson added 24 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists off the bench.

To lose against a Utah Jazz team who are just a little better than the Spurs in the standings on the back of inconsistent play is not going to sit well with coach Popovich. The young players should play better, or else face the wrath of the NBA’s most celebrated coach. It is obvious that the Spurs have got a lot of potential. They have had issues playing to Wemby’s strengths, who is for the time being not at his physical best as well.
