In the recently concluded NBA Draft Lottery, the San Antonio Spurs secured the coveted #1 overall pick. The Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Houston Rockets were subsequently awarded the second, third, and fourth picks respectively. Although it hasn’t officially been confirmed, it is widely speculated that the Spurs will select Victor Wembanyama as their top pick. This has resulted in the Spurs getting hate from several people around the world who aren’t fond of the team’s luck.
The San Antonio Spurs are nothing short of magicians for finding diamonds in the rough. Their abilities have resulted in them getting the likes of Tim Duncan and David Robinson in the past. The Spurs will now be adding Wembanyama to the squad, who already is being deemed a generational talent. You best believe the other scouts aren’t very happy with this, and they’ve made it obvious. According to SpursTalk, a rival scout had some harsh words to say about the Spurs getting the #1 pick.
They said, “F*ck that. Those guys have gotten enough luck already. They already got Tim and Dave. Being able to draft the three best center prospects of the last 35 years would be some bullsh*t.” The dissatisfaction among scouts is running high and the credit for it all goes to Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama’s unique combination of size, ball-handling, and shooting prowess has the potential to revolutionize the game at the professional level. Standing at an impressive 7’4″, he possesses exceptional guard-like skills that are rarely seen in someone of his height. With all that Wembanyama possesses, it is no surprise other scouts are disappointed.
Before Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs’ history with the best centers in the league
The scouts are mad, and so are other rivals after the Spurs will be choosing Wembanyama as their #1 pick. The generational talent in Wemby is like no other, and can only be compared to two players in the recent NBA History. Surprisingly, these two players were drafted by the same franchise, one in the year 1997, and the other in 1987. We are talking about Tim Duncan and David Robinson, who are regarded as some of the best centers to grace the basketball court.
Spurs’ history of choosing the best talent dates back to 1987 with the team finding David “The Admiral” Robinson. David Robinson, regarded as one of the NBA’s most exceptional centers, achieved numerous accolades throughout his career. He was honored as a league MVP, a Rookie of the Year, a six-time All-Star, and a two-time NBA champion. Over the course of his career, Robinson maintained impressive averages of 21.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game. His remarkable contributions played a pivotal role in the San Antonio Spurs‘ success, leading them to two NBA titles.
As a perennial All-Star and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Tim Duncan made significant contributions to the team’s success. In just his second season, Duncan played a pivotal role in securing the first of five NBA championships for the Spurs. That year, he was honored as the Finals MVP and eventually won the MVP award twice in his career.
It’ll be interesting to see if Wembanyama gets selected by the Spurs and will be able to follow in the footsteps of Duncan and Robinson or not.
