Mike Breen has dominated the space of NBA commentary for 18 long years. He is associated with some of the game’s most iconic moments. Indeed, some would argue that it is his calls and commentary which elevated the status of those moments. Among these calls, Breen going ‘BANG!’ is perhaps his most iconic one. This call has seemingly been reserved for moments and not players. Yet, one player stands out when looking at Breen’s ‘BANG!’ calls per player over the last decade. That player is none other than Steph Curry.
Steph Curry has been the recipient of 41 of these calls over the last decade. NBA superstars like Kevin Durant and LeBron James have only received 9 each. Another interesting fact about this data is that Curry’s teammate, Klay Thompson, has received the second highest of such calls at 28. Breen often uses his iconic line when commenting on a clutch shot or perhaps when a player hits a tough look.
The data was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by an account called ‘Official Small Market Sympathizer’. The account posted a list of Mike Breen ‘Bang’ calls by frequency.
The account further added clips for various of these bang calls. Basketball enthusiasts on the platform were left gushing at the information. Some said it helped give them the chance to relive some of the most iconic basketball memories of their childhood.

What is Steph Curry’s most iconic ‘Bang’ moment?
On February 27, 2016. The Golden State Warriors faced off against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Thunder’s home court. It was a normal regular season game, and no one would’ve thought it would morph into one of Curry’s defining moments.

The game had already gone into one overtime. With the last few seconds of overtime approaching, the score was tied 118-118. The ball was in Curry’s hands. Everyone expected the game to go into 2OT. Not Curry. He dribbled the ball just past half-court and let it fly. The spectators’ eyes followed the trajectory of the ball as it travelled through the air, wondering what was about to happen. A few seconds later, they got their answer. “BANG! BANG!” Mike Breen yelled as the ball sailed through the net. The Warriors had won. 121-118
That moment perhaps is what set the base for Curry’s ‘The Best Shooter of all Time’ title in the minds of fans. Undoubtedly, the moment wouldn’t have been etched into the pillars of basketball history without the presence of Mike Breen and his roaring call.
