Steph Curry ends PAINFUL winless streak against LeBron James

Stephen Curry and LeBron James

Stephen Curry and LeBron James’ rivalry continues as the two meet in the postseason after five years. Their playoff battles started back in 2015 when the Warriors faced the Cavs in the NBA Finals. Both teams would go on to face each other in four consecutive Finals series, with the Warriors winning three of them. Following their last Finals meet, LeBron left Cleveland to join the Lakers.

Since his arrival in the West, the Warriors never matched up against the Lakers in the postseason till now. In 2021, the Lakers did play the Warriors in the Play-In tournament, in which Curry and co. fell short against James’ squad. Now five years later, two of the greatest players of their generation matchup in the second round.

Back in 2016, following the Cavs’ championship, Kevin Durant signed a two-year deal with the Warriors. With the former MVP on an already loaded roster, the Warriors won back-to-back championships but would miss out on their three-peat due to injuries in the postseason in 2019. Since the 2016 Finals loss, Steph hadn’t won against James in the playoffs without Durant in the lineup.

The last time Steph and the Warriors prevailed against James with Durant, they went up 3-1 in the 2016 NBA Finals. The Cavaliers bounced back to make the greatest comeback in NBA history and won the franchise’s first title. Following defeat in Game 1 of their current series, Curry had lost four straight playoff games against James in the postseason without Durant by his side. But on Thursday, Curry got his first victory against James without Durant alongside him.

With the series tied at one apiece, and the Lakers set to host the next two games, it would not be easy for the Warriors to win two games in a row. Going on a road trip, the Warriors cannot afford two losses, as going down 1-3 would be their worst nightmare. The Warriors are already coming off a long and hard-fought series against the Sacramento Kings. They would want to avoid a Game 7 in this series.

As Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday, the Lakers will go all out against the Warriors, looking to regain the lead. The Warriors will try their best to take off the Lakers’ home-court advantage with a win.
