Stephen A. Smith believes Zion Williamson could lead the Pelicans into the NBA Finals this season
Zion Williamson has proved all the critics wrong.
Zion Williamson, the 6-foot-6, 284-pound beast, has been leading the Pelicans game after game. The 23-year-old has been playing exceptionally well in the last few games. Zion has made a steady comeback and is on track to prove people wrong. Williamson received quite some hate for his lack of seriousness, as the Pelican seemed to have gained weight.
Though, three months later, Zion is dominating and leading his team, as the Pelicans stand 5th in the West.
The West has a competitive atmosphere, and for New Orleans to be the top-five team after years of struggle is truly a sign of a bright future. Zion has been the key to the Pelicans’ success.
Stephen A. Smith, on the other hand, believes that the same dominance can lead the squad to the NBA Finals.
Zion Williamson, have you seen him? The brother's averaging nearly 24 and 7. They are winning basketball games. They're the number one team defensively with efficiency... The New Orleans Pelicans are being led by Zion Williamson, who's playing like a number one overall pick. Much props, much love to him.Said Stephen A
The Pelicans have won six of their last seven games. In that stretch, Zion Williamson has averaged 26.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, while shooting over 64% from the field.
We're gonna see what he does as the playoffs approach... I got news for you. The New Orleans Pelicans could go to the Finals.Continuing further, he added
With guys like Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum leading the way alongside Zion, the Pelicans will be a tougher contender in the postseason. While there are teams like the Nuggets and Clippers standing in their way, New Orleans can definitely make a deep playoff run this year.
Zion Williamson has a bright future in New Orleans
With Zanos finally back in his full form, the Pelicans are cruising their way to a great record in the West. New Orleans will be facing tough teams like the Nuggets, Clippers, or Thunder in the playoffs. Regardless of the outcomes, the Pelicans are headed in the right direction. Williamson will be the key to the Pelicans future postseason or title runs.
Building a team around their current assets, including Ingram, New Orleans can become a serious threat in the West in the coming years.
With less than 15 games left in the regular season, the Pelicans can look to push themselves up to the third seed at best. It will be interesting to see how far Williamson leads the Pelicans in the West before the season ends.
