Joel Embiid made the game winning shot against Toronto Raptors in Game 3 of their playoff series to push the home team on the edge of the cliff. He went to Raptors’ die-hard fan Drake to mock him, but Drake sportingly congratulated Joel and celebrated with him.
Joel Embiid has been making some huge plays in the first-round series against Toronto Raptors. He not only helped the team to protect their home court in the initial games but led the team’s fightback in Game 3 at Scotiabank Arena, Toronto. His buzzer-beating shot (in the 4th quarter) was crucial in regular time and one in OT proved to be the final piece of action. The Raptors kept the home court relatively formidable, but eventually fell apart against Embiid. On the same note, Stephen A. Smith took a dig at Raptors’ hardcore fan Drake for his celebrations with Embiid.
Smith said to Drake, “You can’t celebrate with the player who just stuck a dagger in the heart of your team. Come on bro, I’m sick, actually I’m not. Love my man Drake. Love seeing him at the games and I love his humility. He knows what’s coming, he’s got his broom ready.”
Joel Embiid breaking Toronto Raptors’ hearts
Philadelphia had a 2-0 lead in the series whilst Raptors were desperate in making a comeback against all odds. The Raptors started the latest game strongly with an early run the game and also good team defense. Philadelphia was not letting the game go easily as they were playing catch-up.
Raptors led by 10 at the half, but complete basketball from Philadelphia cut the lead to just 1 point at the end of the 3rd quarter. The game got in final stages with both teams scoring in most possessions. With just less than a minute to go in the game, James Harden was fouled out giving the home team hope for the win.
Embiid, who was red hot in the whole game, scored 5 out of 9 points in the overtime including a dagger 3 from the left elbow with fractions of seconds on the clock.
Drake challenged Embiid to perform in front of the Toronto Crowd and predicted that it would be hard for Philly to get a win. Though the game was tough, Embiid ensured that he gets the chance to mock NBA Fan Rapper Drake.
Smith particularly singled out Embiid for his heroics and said, “The way Joel Embiid is performing and making me look right now because he is flat out balling and by the way he also happens to be the player I voted as league MVP. Through three games this first round series against the Toronto Raptors, Embiid has looked every bit the part, averaging 27 and 13 in the series so far”
The next match will be played in Toronto again, on 23rd April.
