Got to get his act together” Stephen A. Smith draws concern over Jonathan Kuminga after hearing multiple off-court rumors
Jonathan Kuminga
The Golden State Warriors have been able to contend while also bringing in new players. For the future, they have Jonathan Kuminga, James Wiseman, Jordan Poole, and Moses Moody. Stephen A. Smith, NBA analyst and First Take host, is concerned about one member of the 2022 NBA champions’ youthful core.
Smith mentioned on First Take that he has been hearing good things about Kuminga’s dedication and focus. Smith remarked during a discussion on Jonathan Kuminga: “I’m worried about Kuminga. I’m hearing too many things about him off the court, in terms of his head, the level of discipline that he lacks, some of the foolishness. I’m not getting in his personal business; I’m not saying nothing like that. I’m talking attitude, I’m not talking actions.”
Smith added: “I’m saying the attitude, the level of focus, commitment, determination to put your head down doing the work. I’m hearing that he’s short changing the Warriors in that regard and he got to get his act together because I’m a Jonathan Kuminga fan.”
Jonathan Kuminga’s stint with the warriors
Kuminga was selected seventh overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2021 NBA Draft. He joined with the Warriors on August 3, 2021. Kuminga made his NBA debut on October 30, scoring three points and grabbing one steal in a 103-82 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kuminga scored a career-high 26 points in his first career start against the Toronto Raptors on December 18. Kuminga replaced the injured Chris Duarte in the Rising Stars Challenge game during the 2022 NBA All-Star Game weekend on February 18, 2022. Kuminga’s debut season finished with the Warriors defeating the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals.
Smith’s remarks are particularly concerning given that Kuminga is a young player who the team sees as an important component of their future ambitions. Another concerning factor is that Kuminga is surrounded by excellent seasoned leadership at Golden State. Kuminga is only 19 years old, so if Smith is correct, he has plenty of time to get his act together.
Can the Golden State Warriors win it all again?
It is tough to maintain the degree of attention required to get through the grind of the season and postseason and come out on top. It gets significantly more difficult to do this in consecutive seasons. The Golden State Warriors core, on the other hand, understands what it takes after repeating as champions in 2017 and 2018.
While numerous teams in the league could improve, it’s impossible to argue that the reigning champs should not be regarded NBA favourites next season. Despite losing numerous important players from last season’s squad, Golden State has replaced them like they usually do.
Wiseman’s return from injury will be maybe the most essential acquisition to the Warriors. It’s easy to overlook his skill because he hasn’t played much since being picked second overall in 2020.Wiseman has the potential to be a very good long-term player. If he can achieve his full potential, he will be precisely what this Warriors team requires. He has the potential to be a rim protector and runner while also hitting outside shots.
