Mike D'Antoni and James Harden

Although James Harden has been able to contribute decently for the Philadelphia 76ers yet he is nowhere near his best form. After being second-fiddle to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in the Brooklyn Nets, the Beard has lashed onto same form even with his team, to Joel Embiid. However, the reason for this downfall had a unique take by sports media analyst Stephen A. Smith.

He urged that James Harden’s poor performance is majorly because of change in Head Coach rather than decreased athleticism. The former went onto claim that Harden’s poor run in eventually going to force Daryl Morey and other board members to fire Doc Rivers only to hire Mike D’Antoni. Does Smith’s opinion hold any water? Take a look below.

Smith said, “Has James Harden really lost that much of a step, JJ Redick? Or is it that you wanted to get out of Houston so you got to Brooklyn? Then when you got to Brooklyn, you really wanted to get to Philly, so obviously you told Steve Nash one thing you do another.”

“You end up getting out the door, which is what you really wanted, because we know what he’s willing to do, and now you’re in Philly and all these rumours are circulating that if things don’t work out, Doc Rivers is gonna be gone and Mike D’Antoni is gonna be in there.”

Now to those who are not aware, the possibility of Mike D’Antoni becoming the head coach of the Sixers makes complete and accurate sense, as he already has an established connection with/to Harden. Former Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is also their president of basketball operations., which makes the job easier for Antoni.

“Who wants Mike D’Antoni as the coach? We all know Daryl Morey is one of them and James Harden is another. Is that gonna happen if James Harden is looking all-world? Is that gonna happen if Philadelphia is winning?”

That being said, Harden came to Philly only to seek his best form and help his current team to win a championship, registering his first as well. As he has already produced his MVP season under Mike D’Antoni, will Morey go one-step ahead in firing Rivers for the Beard’s happiness? Remains to be seen.
