“They make me sick” Stephen A. Smith rips apart New York Knicks for not being able to acquire Utah’s Donovan Mitchell
Stephen A. Smith
Stephen A. Smith made it to the NBA headlines and the reason was New York Knicks again. He is a life-long fan of the Knicks but has even called them a disastrous franchise in the past. The relationship between them is very unique but one-sided at the same time. As the analyst tries his best to build up bridges and stay a loyal fan but the franchise isn’t just interested to do the same and make it a fair trade. But, honestly, the Knicks aren’t good at any trades so not really their fault. And, them passing upon Donovan Mitchell who would have easily improved the team a lot has Stephen A. Smith red. As his hilarious but full of frustration rant for the team and their dumb and foolish decisions is viral all over the internet.
Donovan Mitchell joining hands with the New York Knicks looked like a done deal. But the reality is very disappointing for the Knicks, their fans and especially the loyal ones like Stephen A. Smith. As Spida recently got traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a blockbuster trade and the Knicks got clowned by the Jazz. Stephen A. Smith and many others were expecting a trade which brings Donovan to the Garden but their expectations never turned into reality and them trying to be smart got them played.
In exchange for Donovan Mitchell, the Jazz acquired Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, and Collin Sexton along with three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027 and 2029) and two pick swaps (2026, 2028) from the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Knicks were a front runner during the talks to acquire the all-star guard and they had the right assets to get a fair trade done or maybe get robbed. But since they tried to be on the advantageous end, they ended up playing themselves as the Jazz didn’t even ask them to top the offer received by the Cavs as the doors were closed and now everyone who rides around Knicks even Stephen A. Smith is nothing but mad at the franchise.

Stephen A. Smith rants on the Knicks failing to improve and losing Donovan Mitchell
Stephen A. Smith is an honest man and he says what he wants to and most of his takes make sense. So him being furious at the Knicks is understandable and not at all wrong. Because the franchise somewhat gave up on acquiring Donovan Mitchell and went on to build a “Mid Three” which the fans hate. So the analyst stepped up and criticized them as soon as the news of Spida to the Cavs was out it really broke many hearts and dreams that day as it was a done deal and not many expected this stunner.
Stephen A. Smith ripping apart the Knicks quoted: “You see what I am saying…every single time, man, something goes wrong. I wanted Donovan Mitchell to New York. I shut my mouth. I didn’t say a word! I didn’t say a word, because I didn’t want to blow it. I didn’t want to get in the way. You got about seven or eight first-round picks. You got R.J. Barrett, you got Julius Randle, you got [Obi] Toppin, you got Immanuel Quickley and you still couldn’t get Donovan Mitchell! You still couldn’t get him! So once again, we’re going to turn another season and the New York Knicks are devoid of a star… This is what I am saying…They make me sick. Nothing ever gets done in New York with the Knicks! Nothing! Nothing! It just never ends with the Knicks. It just never freaking ends. Ahhhh!”
Stephen A. Smith’s frustration is understandable and very correct as the Knicks have really started throwing the game away. But now it all depends upon the “MID Three” of Julius Randle, Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett as they’ll have to outshine their rivals and carry the team. As they have secured a bag worth more than $300 million and now it’s time to be the real “Big 3” and ball out there or else it would be nothing but one more failed season for them.
