“Give me Klay Thompson and Draymond” Stephen A. Smith suggests a MEGA Lakers-Warriors trade around Anthony Davis which can fix their struggling ends
Lakers and Stephen A. Smith
After their loss against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Lakers sit at the 14th position in the Western Conference with a 2-9 record. This is perhaps the worst LeBron James team has performed throughout his 20-year career. Several NBA analysts have suggested multiple trade ideas for the Lakers to improve the roster this season. One of the suggestions came from Stephen A. Smith, suggesting the Lakers should trade Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook for Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.
Reporting from the sidelines at the Barclays Center, he said, “If I am the Los Angeles Lakers I might pick up the phone and call Bob Myers and say Anthony Davis give me Klay Thompson and Draymond.” He also suggested, “At the end of the season, in the offseason when I am able to do so yes I strongly entertain trading LeBron James. Not because of LeBron James but because he is the one person even in his…20th year in the league that has extreme value that other people will give up assets for.”
When Jaylen Rose chimed that the Lakers should wait for the season to end and then trade for Kyrie Irving. Smith said, “Love my man Jaylen Rose but that is the most ridiculous suggestion I have ever heard.” He added, “When it comes to Kyrie Irving we are not talking about basketball ability, with him it is always about availability. Over the last four years, he’s invented four different ways to miss games.”
Smith further suggested, “If I am Los Angeles Lakers…I am not betting my future on Kyrie Irving’s arrival. I am trading Anthony Davis I am trading Russell Westbrook now. As soon as I possibly can cause of you are going nowhere cause you have no shooters.” He might be right in the Analysis that the Lakers right now need shooters around LeBron James. To succeed with LeBron every team has needed shooters around him.
As Jaylen Rose suggested Anthony Davis is balling this season and the Lakers wouldn’t get “real value in return.” However, it is very unlikely that the Warriors would trade green and Klay Thompson for Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Again to Smith’s proposition, Micheal Wilbon said, “If I am the Bob Myres I am politely declining it.” Though Anthony Davis would be a great addition to the Warriors they already have two big men in James Wiseman and Kevonn Looney. Lakers on the other hand need shooters and bringing Thompson alone wouldn’t solve the Lakers’ problem.
The talk of trading Anthony Davis is picking pace with the Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers woes continue to grow every day as they move deeper into the season. Despite having two former MVPs in LeBron James and Russell Westbrook and an MVP-caliber player in Anthony Davis, the Lakers have been outplayed by their opponents 9 out of 11 times. They are in serious need of shooters to improve their roster but they do not have the pieces to trade for better players. In that scenario trading, important pieces is the solution left for the Lakers.
Several NBA analysts have suggested trading Anthony Davis and Westbrook to change their roster for the better. Bill Simmons already reported that the Lakers are thinking of trading Davis because of their poor start. Numerous NBA analysts like Chris Broussard have suggested that the Lakers should trade Anthony Davis for Damian Lillard.
Although the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors have both had shaky starts this season, neither team is probably ready to make any panic moves just yet. There is always hope for progress, led by superstars Steph Curry and LeBron James respectively. But looking at the fact that LeBron is going to be 38 and he won’t have enough left in his tank to save the Lakers’ season.
