Stephen A. Smith always sends out some of the most intriguing NBA takes. He understands the game well, knows all about the top ballers, and is one of the biggest and finest guys in the league. Smith also has the evergreen GOAT debate sorted and well-settled for him. He respects both Michael Jordan and LeBron James and even appreciates their greats with pure heart and wise words.
But Smith’s GOAT is Michael Jordan, and he isn’t going to change that anytime soon. Last season he revealed his top 5 NBA players of all time. He started the list by crowning his GOAT, Jordan, in the first position just above James. They were followed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, and Magic Johnson. This list, especially the second position of James, didn’t sit well with his agent, Rich Paul.
Paul wasn’t a fan of Smith’s top 5 list. And he even called out the sports show host for it. Smith recently appeared on Paul George’s podcast, “Podcast P with Paul George.” There, he revealed the exact conversation he had with Paul.
Smith said, “I got him as the second-best player in the history of basketball. I got him ahead of Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar). I got him behind no one but (Michael) Jordan, and I said to Mr. Chirper himself, Rich Paul – my boy – and I said, you act like that’s an insult. This dude [said], ‘It is an insult.’ I said, ‘Get the f*** out of my face.’ That is exactly what I said to him. I don’t want to talk to you any more.“
Paul has been around James even before the fame got him. He is also a part of James’ inner circle and has been around his complete journey and ranks him as the GOAT of the game. And that’s not wrong at all. As many other fans also believe the same.

Rich Paul believes the oldest generation will never give LeBron James credits

Rich Paul was questioned about the GOAT debate during his time on Kai Cenat’s live stream. And his unexpected answer didn’t disappoint anyone. He threw out a very sensible and logical take while framing a solid case for his best friend and client, LeBron James. He even brought Bill Russell into the conversation, mentioning how older people won’t give King James the correct recognition and credit.
Rich Paul said, “You see these guys on TV every day, and they say. “Oh, it’s Michael, and it’s about the rings. Well, if it’s about the rings, then it’s Bill Russell. So if we’re counting only 6-0 in the Finals, okay, we get that right, but when you’re talking about how hard it is to get there, and you’re making it just about wins and losses.”
Paul further continued,“If you want to move the furniture around the room, you can move it whichever way to make it as comfortable as you want to make it. I don’t really get into the GOAT aspect because there’s an older generation on TV every day with those slots. They’re never gonna give LeBron that credit.”
The debate, though, continues, and the only way LeBron James can shut a majority of people against him is by winning some more titles. Unfortunately, the rest of his greats aren’t really valued correctly by the majority of the basketball fans.
