Tonight was supposed to be LeBron James‘ night. This is why ESPN’s NBA Countdown crew was present at the game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets.

However, before the game, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar went to greet the crew. Stephen A Smith had an awkward reaction to seeing James, bringing out the trolls from fans.

LeBron James was doing his usual pre-game warm-up routine on the court before the game. The crew of Malika Andrews, Kendrick Perkins, Bob Myers, and Smith were on the court discussing the historic night. They were discussing the impact of the record on James’ legacy and the NBA as a whole. This is when James came over to greet the crew.

After hugging Perkins, he shook hands respectfully with Myers. Then, after greeting Andrews, James shook hands with Smith. All the while, Smith’s reaction to seeing James was hilarious. It seemed as if Smith was shocked and did not have words upon seeing the King.

The backdrop of this reaction from Stephen A. Smith is due to the constant criticism of LeBron James. Be it Smith’s criticism of James’ claims of being the GOAT. Or Smith’s criticism of how the Lakers are faring with James’ leadership. But for fans, it seems the main reason for Smith’s reaction was when he stated that no one fears LeBron James.

During this encounter, it seems Smith was extremely uncomfortable with greeting James. While the rest of the crew enjoyed James’ presence, Smith looked out of place. Even his handshake with James seemed too formal. James’ demeanor towards Smith was also noticeable as they barely made eye contact.

Usually, LeBron James brings out respect with whoever he meets. Even though his biggest critic is Smith’s former colleague, Skip Bayless, Smith is not far behind. Although Smith doesn’t go on a tirade like Bayless, he has had his fair share of comments against James. Probably that was in Smith’s subconscious when James came over.

Fans could not help themselves but troll Stephen A. Smith for his reaction. It seemed as if fans caught on to his hesitation to greet James. Fans took to social media to have a go at the ESPN lead presenter. Check out some of their reactions below;
